Here's a thought...what if the guys running slammed stems can actually run them? Maybe they don't have the flexibility of a 2x4.

I can't see the point of anybody riding a slammed stem if it gives them pain 30 mins into a ride.

I recently slammed my stem, after running a -25º stem at the top of the steerer for a few weeks (when I cut the steerer, a 90mm -6º stem went on.) The bike is now significantly more comfortable over long distances than it was before... but then again I have the arms of a sumatran orangutan. 37" sleeves on fitted shirts. I most certainly did not do it for aesthetics.

There's a guy that lives in my area that has aero bars on his hybrid bike. They have to be at least 6" above his saddle height.

Sorry you're having a hard time understanding the point. It isn't about the rider trying too hard, it's about the look of the bike. It just doesn't look right on all bikes, functional or not. We aren't talking about who can/can't or should/shouldn't run a slammed stem.

But by all means, post a few more "Cool story bro"s to help keep things moving along.

The ironic part of this thread is that my road bike has only a 2.5mm spacer above the headset, but it also uses a traditional CK threadless headset so it looks a little taller.

That can't be safe.
