Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If it's not making a difference either way -- so far -- then it's purely a toss up. The cutout might improve ventilation, which is never a bad thing, but OTOH a poorly made one may have edges that chafe and shorten the wear life of your shorts.

For my part, never had a reason to consider cutouts, if the same saddle came with or without, I'd probably go without on the theory that it's better to g with the devil you know. Plus it'll probably be cheaper so why pay extra for a feature I'm not sure I want anyway. But that's just me, you'll have to decide for yourself.

Saves weight and doesn't compromise the performance of the saddle in any way. Why not?

And there you have it.

Two outlooks, two decisions. Go with the one closer to your own.

I bought one because it was a Nashbar brand and 25% off so practically free. I've never needed one but I figured less material = weight savings!

A saddle with a cutout not be less materials or lighter than a saddle without a cutout.

The lightest saddles I have are leather wrapped carbon with no cut out and my $10 Chinese plastic spider saddle

It depends.

I ended up with a Terry Butterfly with a cutout and it was the most uncomfortable saddle I have ever ridden because of that cutout. That thing was the very description of pain.

I now have a Brooks B17 with a cutout and ... the jury is still out because I'm still in the break-in process, but the cutout seems OK. It doesn't seem to be causing any issues anyway.

As always with a saddle ... try it.

I would buy the exact saddle I tested(unless it was blemished or had test saddle graphics). To me, saving an ounce isn't worth the risk of a different fit.
