Open Letter to a Jacksonville Florida rider

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I grew up riding in a beautiful old cemetery and never would have thought it was disrespectful. And would probably have thought to take a spin through the new National cemetery here if they ever get it finished. Other cemeteries I pass on my rides these days are small, old rural sites with roads unsuitable for riding, although I have occasionally stopped and walked through them. I'm not sure why riding a bicycle in a cemetery is any more disrespectful than touring one in a car or on foot. Racing through a cemetery might be another matter.

However, I always stop and remove my helmet for passing funerals and wouldn't want to offend by riding in a cemetery if most people feel that way.
