Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tucson bike paths

Locally my wife and I eschew all the bike paths. They cross driveways, are full of dogs off leash and horribly maintained. Not so in Tucson. Incredible bike paths. We enjoy road riding all around Tucson but the bike paths are really nice. Here's a video from footage take a week or two ago in Jan 2016.

I'm going in March. Is there a map of the paths?

That's great! I began my adult cycling "career" in Tuscon in 1980. Even back then it was very bike friendly place to ride.

You can find maps here: The Loop - Pima County

Know that they have added quite a few new miles in the last few months, so the maps may not be entirely up to date.

It looks nice. HOT?

What's the point of having a center line if the cyclists in the video spend much of the time to the left of the center line?

There was a recent accident report from Tusccon.

I suppose the bottom line is, no matter the infrastructure, one must always be vigilant when riding around vehicles.

You forgot to mention the repair stations, complete with work stands, tools, and air pumps. Love The Loop, can't wait to go back..

I ride the bike paths in Columbus, Ohio when I visit my brother. I really enjoy them and rarely use bike paths where I live. I wish I was in Tuscon right now....

The best part is that the pavement is in good condition, so you can ride at a reasonable speed.

There are often long stretches where there is no traffic and riding two abreast isn't impossible or unsafe. There aren't too many blind corners so when you have a half mile ahead of you with nobody in sight...there's no reason to not cross over the line as long as you keep an eye in front and in back.
