My dilema on first bikes , need to decide this weekend

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My dilema on first bikes , need to decide this weekend

I just got mail from Supergo news letter . they have a sale on all their bikes on this weekend only.

I was looking on the Scattante R-550 Road Bike 2005 regular price is $800 now only $649.00.

spec is :
https://www.supergo.com/profile.cfm?L...604&referpage=

A high performance Shimano 105 equipped bike at a price that s tough to beat. You get an aero shaped Easton ultralite frame that s agile and responsive. The integrated carbon fork combined with S-bend seat and chain-stays smooth out the roughest roads. weight is just ver 18Lbs.

other bikes that i was thinking of are from Performance :

they are $650 before cupons and membership
Tiagra.
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=3040

or their model with the 105 that goes for $850 .
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/....cfm?SKU=18363

Or Trek 1000 for $520 Sora 20Lbs (at my LBS)

now i'm over seas and i will be back in the US only on the 22nd . so i cannot go to a store either to check them out

Thanks Danny

Are you going to be back in Denver? Cuz there's performance and supergo here, so you can try 'em both. Along with dozens of other shops.

Just FYI, the weight of the stock Razza 4.0 is 21.5 lbs. I have one, and I weighed it. Of course, mine is slightly different since I changed out the pedals for Speedplay X5s, the saddle for a Forte SLX, the tires for Hutchinson Carbon Comps and the stem for a Weyless R-19. But stock it weighs 21.5 lbs, and the only thing that really changed the weight of mine was the stem (about .5 lbs). It comes with a really big, really ugly adjustable stem.

As for ride quality, I'm not really sure. I tried a Schwinn Fastback Sport and I liked the Razza better. I also tried a Trek 1000 and I really don't know how much I liked it since it was the first bike I tried and I never went back to try it again.

The only thing that I see as a real problem with the Razza is the BB and cranks. When I really step on the pedals there is a lot of flex, of the crankarms or BB I'm not sure. It has Tiagra cranks, and I don't know what BB it has.

The Scattantes are speced very nicely for the same price on sale, but I didn't want to buy a bike I hadn't ridden and there aren't any Supergos around here. Plus the lifetime free adjustments policy in Performance stores is pretty nice (not sure what services the free adjustments covers though).

Scattantes has really nice specs - that's my choice, but can't afford it...

I've seen the Razzas in person at my local Performance... they have got to be the UGLIEST bikes known to man. Seriously, I don't know what they did to those things, but the paint just looks really cheap and amateurish. Even the guys working there were picking on the quality when I was chatting with them.

Go with the Supergo R-550. That's a great deal for the price.
