Upgrade 2014 Trek 1.1 Groupset?

I have a Trek 1.2 I bought last year to ride with my kids.
I wanted a cheap road bike I could throw in the truck (we have to drive a ways to get to our low traffic “loop”) with no worries.
I knew we’d be putting in a lot of miles and since I have been unlucky with carbon frames, I wanted a tough alloy frame.
I was going to buy another bike for group rides and events, but I began to really like the Trek. I have since upgraded to a full 105 5800 group with Ultegra 6800 brakes.
I think you should upgrade it and keep it if you like it. My 60cm is under 20lbs, shifts as well as any bike I’ve owned and I plan on keeping it as long as it holds up.
The only reason I say upgrade is because the 1.1 has a boat anchor crank set and the brakes are iffy.
I went for the full group because after switching cranksets and going to a wide cassette, I needed a longer RD. After reading all of the praises on the 5800 group shifting and the newly designed FD, it seemed like a no-brainer at the price.
A Trek 1 series with the 5800 group IMO is a great bang-for-the-buck bike.
