Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Harry's and Shave Club both have the same business model, probably very comparable blade quality. The Shave Club gel is called Shave Butter. It doesn't foam at all. Like you say, I can hardly hold the razor when the gel gets on it.

Does this apply to mountain bikes, too? Because I just bought one.

Um, not exactly. It is the energy required to raise 1 kg of water one degree Celsius. Remember when we talk about dietary calories we are really referring to kilocalories.

Carry on.

No form of exercise makes me as hungry as cycling. Way in excess of the actual calorie balance.

I never seem to have that problem. If I'm counting calories on a non riding day, it sucks. But if I get even a short ride in, burn around 5-800 calories, I go maybe 300 over my calorie budget.

All I know is that not counting calories for a week was awesome, but I'm never going to lose weight that way.

That'll never work. If you find yourself short you can't be finishing out with carbs. You'll be starving again an hour later. You need to fill out stuff like cucumbers and lettuce. Stuff that will fill you to bursting without a lot of calories or carbs.

I'm a radish addict which sucks because good radishes have a more narrow window of availability than a lot of other veggies. I also like raw kohlrabi, the stuff that looks like an alien baby.

Did anybody see the GCN video about over-indulging on gels on rides? Evidently it's a fattening habit. Gels are so intense with carbs that the body can't absorb them if you suck down to many too fast. Storage and weight gain is the result from that little packet.

Wasn't there a thread here a while back about some guy living off of gels?

Don't doubt it. I ride with a guy who isn't overweight who sucks down 3-4 gels on a 40 mile ride plus eats a cheese omelet and toast half-way through. I figure that he's a mutant, though.

I've only had one gel in my lifetime.
