Had a unique feeling today.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Had a unique feeling today.

I was coming upon in intersection in which I 'took' the lane commandingly and I was turning left. Came to a crawl still in the big ring and about cog 6 and while waiting for the traffic to clear so I could turn it seemed as though I was 15' tall, now I was standing and was ready for quick acceleration, but somehow a feeling came over me like everyone else at the intersection was casting a very admiring gaze at me, as though they were in awe of this semi fit specimen was gracing their retinas and were stunned at how little they felt while witnessing something as simple as a man and his bike...

That's good. I hate cyclists that take the lane and can't keep up with the 40 mph traffic.

BTW I think I saw you. I waved but you didn't acknowledge me.

Why anyone would venture into a left turn situation like this is beyond me. But I am a little turned on by what this magnificent beast must look like.

Unique feeling, Oh behave.

Joking aside, I know the feeling of being extraordinarily tall or riding high up sometimes. The funny thing is, some days I'll head out on the bike and it feels like I'm crawling on the ground. The next morning, it feels like I've been lifted up. Indeed, sometimes we do stand out from ordinary traffic, we feel good about ourselves, things are going our way and our mind just runs with it: king of the world!

This is exactly why I wear lycra. However, I saw a video of myself riding recently and my self image was somewhat blown. Now I realize they are in awe of this somewhat pudgy old guy on a bike.
