Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm not trying to get anyone mad. Sorry if you did. I'm not mad just puzzled why your posts keeps deleting like you are!

Have you checked to see if you have some sort of plugin that is messing with your ability to post? Or maybe you have an extension that may be fouling up that ability? I would try to turn off ALL your extensions and see if things improve, if so then turn one on and try again, if again no problem turn on another and keep doing that till you run into the problem then you know it's an extension issue or conflict with one extension and another one being on at the same time. After you've done that and you haven't found the culprit then go to your plugins and see if there is something there causing problems, and you can simply turn one off and check to see if problem is resolved if not turn that one back on and turn another off etc till the problem is solved. I can't help to think it's probably an extension but maybe a plugin.

Maybe someone else may have a better idea then I do but I would start with what I said because it's simple to do, just don't delete especially a plugin accidently or an extension, they can be simply disabled then turned back on.

LOL, yup they sure are a personal choice, you would probably laugh at some of the tanks I have!

Try Cars.com and Autotrader.com those two are the the largest used car websites and most dealers and some private people will list on one or both of those sites.

I use a variety of vehicles:

2009 Vespa LX150. careful in windy conditions!

2003 Honda Element. Hauls a lot of bikes with ease. I even have a two bike hitch mount rack.

2015 VW GTI with the back seat down and the front wheel off, everything fits easily inside. I looked at the Honda Fit for its bike carrying abilities but it didn't impress me enough to buy one.

You are not the only one with this problem. Try typing responses using the advance response link, it helps. Google Chrome seems to be better. I frequent other forums that use the same software as bike forums and do not have the problems I have here. I wish it would get fixed as I frequently give up trying to post a question or comment.

The audio control unit went bad twice - this is a systemic problem across the entire Ford product line in 2013. The passenger side doors stopped locking around 40k miles. Upper strut bearings were bad from the factory. It would have had endless transmission problems if it had the automatic transmission. As it was the computer is programmed to drop the revs whenever the brake was pressed making heel/toe downshifting and trail braking almost impossible.

Focus ST is a fun car and I'm saying that as a former SVT owner. It would take a lot to get me into a Ford again. I'll likely never buy another.
Interesting. I also had an SVT for a couple years. It was my first Ford since the Pinto debacle of the '70's when Ford let people crash and die because they didn't want to spend $8 per car to fix the problem. My current ST is a 2014 w/32K mi. on it. There are one or two things that don't thrill me about it. I do not like FWD for instance and this car has plenty of torque steer but it is generally a pleasant car. I'm not sure what you mean by Audio Control Unit but if you are talking about the Bluetooth Sync, I couldn't agree more. It is horrible. When I tell it to "call home" it responds with "calling Kate" or some such. Miserable stuff that seems universal. But, really that's my only gripe. The best hatch I have ever had was a '95 BMW 318TI, not fast but totally fun and reliable. If someone would make a RWD version of my Focus I'd be in heaven. The new Focus RS w/AWD starts at $36K and I'm not willing to pay that much for it. So, my ST meets my needs for now. Threw in a pic w/Guru inside. I throw a thick foam pad over it and put my gf's Trek on top.

Thank you for the advice. It just seems strange that I have the same problems whether I'm posting from a PC or a iPad or iPhone and using different IPSs.

I'm sorry to hear you are having the same problems, but a little relieved to hear I'm not the only one. Maybe the issue will eventually get fixed.

I have tried the advanced mode and at first that seemed a little better. After a few visits there it was just as bad the quick reply. I'll try Google Chrome. Thanks for the suggestions.

OK. Now I'm using Google Chrome and it seems far superior. No typos at all and I've typed a whole 3 sentences. Thanks.

Audio Control Unit (ACU)/Audio Control Module is the main control unit for the entertainment system. It sits behind the dash. Parts and labor $780 to replace.

This is typical...
I noticed a few months ago while I was driving my radio would randomly just cut out and the entire radio would completely lock up. Before it cut out, it would make a horribly loud sound. Restarting the car would fix the problem. It starting happening more and more and now my radio is completely useless. Now there is a constant noise that sounds like whistling and crackling and it doesn't stop, even if the volume is down and the radio is off. Even turning off the car won't make the noise stop. When this is happening the entire radio locks up. I ended up just pulling the fuse so I don't lose my mind and my eardrums (the noise gets incredibly loud at random times).

I brought mine to the dealer, parked it inside the bay where you check in your cars for service, rolled down the window, removed the key, and the sound system was BLASTING static, cracking and popping noises, so loud that salesmen came out from the sales floor and guys came from the parts department to see what was going on. I just stood there and smiled while they fiddled with the knobs, started and stopped the car, etc. Eventually I just pulled the fuse.

Also, I would get "Indexing, please wait... " sometimes when I plugged in USB media. It would happen weekly or so. I had to carry a 10mm socket to disconnect the battery in order to get it to work again.

AHEM!

I hate to rain on this party guys, but we have strayed into a full-fledged automobile thread. I think we know what I mean.

I'm not going to close the thread, it's a fine thread, and it warms my heart to see everyone peacefully enjoying a thread. I'm just going to move it to FOO and you guys can continue to enjoy your automobile thread.

Just click on the link which will remain on the first page of Road for at least a week, and you won't even have to navigate to Foo to enjoy the thread.

Well, I'm the OP, and I'm responsible for derailing the thread as much as anyone else with my rant against the Ford Focus. Apologies for that.

I do however, appreciate all the banter and conversation. A lot of good suggestions here.

Moving forward, I'm going to try to get into a 2014 or newer Subaru Forrester. Test drove a 2016 and it was nice. Going to test drive a 2014 one night this week. I think the respectable, middle-class single-dad soon to be empty-nester thing to do is drive it for 3 years and give it to my daughter when she graduates college.

I doubt she will carry a bike in it but I certainly will.

Peace to all of you.

Get the EyeSight feature. It's inexpensive and will probably pay for itself just in lower insurance premiums (automatic braking).

Maybe three more years in college will change her mind. Lots of young women see the need for more exercise and alternative forms of transportation when they start a job.

She just switched from aerospace engineering to theoretical physics. "Daddy, that means graduate school" was her lament. She will probably be in class for a while.

Besides, Georgia Tech has the Olympic pool. Not an Olympic sized pool but the actual pool used in the 96 Olympics. They have a heck of a nice gym built around it too.

She has expressed interest in mountain biking though. Anything can happen. I'll be happy if she hits the treadmill 3x/week though college.

Good for her! I made a similar switch years ago (now an experimentalist). The good thing about Physics grad school is that you can go straight to a Ph.D and get paid (a little), so you don't have to go into debt in grad school. I'm now an official doctor (just not the useful kind).

Aerospace engineering = real jobs with real salaries. theoretical Physics = theoretical jobs with theoretical salaries, both dependent on grants and other sorts of "maybe money".

I'd make her perform a careful cost benefit analysis on the switch in majors... and make sure it includes reasonable estimates for the economic realities of each.

NOTE: I'm not saying which path is the right path (for her). Just don't make the usual mistake of making ill informed decisions based on emotional rather than rational factors.
