Insane in the membrane

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I did my first full century yesterday at 3-state, 3-mountain. Finished after riding the last 45 miles or so with leg cramps that forced me to stop and stretch at least half a dozen times.

It's an amazing ride, but when you aren't able to get great base mileage in, and you have a vicious head cold, probably not the best idea for a FIRST century.

But I'm so surprised I didn't climb into the sag wagon that I had to tell somebody who would understand.

Anybody else here ride this great ride? Because it had to be the most beautiful riding day ever, and riding into downtown Chattanooga with traffic stopped for bicycles was worth every minute of suffering.

Done several rides like that. Four of them were 600k in eight days and a finish in a small-ish town with lots of townfolk out to welcome us in. Too good.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Do it next year. I wasn't as fit as I should have been and had been forced to skip almost all of my long climb conditioning rides due to silly work stuff, but for the most part, electrolyte deficit and stuffed up head notwithstanding, I could not believe how cool the ride was!
