Where to buy quality tires inexpensively apart from UK

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

these prices fluctuate quite a bit and sometimes at very short intervals. similar to pricing on amazon. Ribble is back up to 43.84.
these prices also fluctuate based on your previous searches on the site, time of day, location, etc, etc ... standard ecommerce techniques.
but i am patient and have space supplies on hand so it's never a rush to buy anything

Do you have a point?

3-4 days isn't bad, and it's better than most US retailers.

There are usually dealers selling tires on eBay. I also keep an eye out on various forums for people selling off tires at a discount.

The point is --- if you're in a hurry to get the tire on the bike since you have no spares, then either buy local or from a retailer known for quick shipping. If you're interested in purchasing at the lowest price and can tolerate a two week delivery time since you have a few tires on hand, then go with the retailers I suggested. If you can't tolerate a 10-14 delivery time you have plenty of options.

Merlincycle Conti GP 4000 S I now @ $37.71

I buy Continental GP4000S from BikeTiresDirect for $49 each. They're on ChainReactionCycles for $43 and the shipping from Dublin to NJ is 2 days vs 6 days from Oregon to NJ.

Any sources for these tires that are even cheaper ?

I was looking to buy three Schwalbe One's in an oddball size (ETRTO 540mm) and almost paid $75/tire from Amazon. I eventually found them at xxcycle.com for what amounted to $42/tire shipped. Ordered on 3/15 and took delivery 3/19. FWIW, I had ordered from Ribble the same day and took delivery of that order on 3/19 as well.

Yeah, the other thing to do is when you do find a great deal, just buy extras to store for a rainy day. I think I have 6 extra tires in the bike room and even more in storage, so there's no wait time involved when I need new tires.

I mentioned this already but shipments to the US should be much faster now with the higher duty threshold

I keep reading these sentiments, but prior to the evident rule change, I had ordered/received $1K groupsets and $600 wheelsets without any tax. But I guess you're saying that even so, I'd see delivery speed increase even if I still don't end up with a duty tax bill?

Right. An inspector should notice a $1K groupset and $600 wheelset under the old rules that didn't show duty. The packages should get diverted and inspected, which includes opening. In the past suspicious declarations would be delayed while they are diverted, opened, inspected, and resealed. Hopefully now more packages sale through without delay.

I suspect it comes down to the shipping method. Sent via Royal Mail/ParcelForce - transfer to USPS, the governmental carriers couldn't be bothered to collect. DHL or such, ie. private carriers, they aren't the government so can get in trouble for not collecting.

Actually US Customs is trusting carriers to accurately declare and value the merchandise. Customs spots checks and the degree largely depends upon their experience. So if they catch DHL and others not doing the job properly, they will tighten up. Not only might DHL receive penalities, they start to lose business from shippers and brokers.

I agree.. and to my point. I've received cartons delivered by the USPS with a poly sleeve attached with sheet of paper inside, that instructs the postal carrier to collect the amount on this sheet of paper -- which is based on the declared (and actual) value. Either the usps carriers have no idea that this is what is in these sleeves, or they have no way of collecting money (cash?) from someone if they're actually home, or they couldn't be bothered and can't get in trouble.. I don't know.

There are, of course, cheaper tires.

I've had good luck with a pair of Origin8 Elimin8er tires for about $20 each. A little on the heavy side, but they did reasonably well.

Conti Gp2 4000's for $76 shipped from the UK. Just wait a little longer for the shipping or buy an extra one or two if you don't like waiting.

US was like $50 per tire I think if I could find 'em.
