Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What course to take

Hello,

I need advice on material and bicycle to get as my next purchase. I am currently on a 2011 roubaix; full carbon frame. I am currently looking at this years Tarmac comp, which also has a full carbon frame. My question: should I go with a carbon frame again? Should I tone it down to an ALU or steel frame? If so, what are some comparable bikes to the Tarmac? Yes, I enjoy the feel of carbon on the road. I also have a Caadx with an ALU frame carbon fork, which is really nice. Should I get a custom steel road bike next? I do not race, at all.

Why do you want to tone it down to aluminum or steel and what do you mean by tone it down?

I meant as buy an ALU frame and use the leftover money to upgrade wheels, etc. I am seeing steel as being rather expensive due to be being built by bespoke companies.
