I secretly like getting caught in the rain, there's something silly and joyous about it, but that still doesn't mean that I'll head out in it.

WhyFi 05-11-16 09:55 AM

Lens is in Minneapolis.

Everyone chalk up 1 in the WRONG column. What I have said is that I don't purposely go out into the rain. If it starts raining while I'm riding, so be it. I don't like it, but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do.

See, that's what I'm talkin' about.

I call bull****. When we were talking about commuting, and rain rides in events such as RollCNY does, and brevet's and the like, you admonished us as fools, and risking our lives. Especially when it was said that when commuting, one sometimes must ride in the rain to get home, even if it started before one got on the bike.

Ooooooh shots fired in Robert's direction. It's getting feisty in here.

When I'm on my death bed, reminiscing, I'm pretty sure one thought will never cross my mind - "Damn, I should have ridden my bike in the rain more".

Dan333SP 05-11-16 10:23 AM

Rain riding is fine. It's the bike cleanup afterwards that's the nightmare for me at least.

I'm OK with it too. Heck, if I didn't ride in the rain, I would never get off the trainer. The cold part sucks though.

Not even close!

BillyD 05-11-16 10:28 AM

I couldn't live in the northwest. If you didn't ride in the rain you would never ride.

Good midweek club ride today. One guy has a calfee with Di2 and his drivetrain died. Unsure if battery dead or connection problem. He took a shortcut home. Otherwise 100% fun!

WhyFi 05-11-16 10:51 AM

Lens arrived. Looks immaculate other than some very faint cleaning scratches on the front element (which were disclosed and well photographed) which shouldn't come close to affecting the image quality. The weather, of course, isn't being terribly cooperative right now, so I don't know how much I'll get to play with it outside, but here's one test shot to test out the macro mode. This is wide open and at MFD, so depth is a little lacking.

Post-rain bike cleanup is the worst. The fenders made it better but still annoying.

Put the rain coat on and give it a go anyway? Maybe it'll be fun so long as it isn't cold?

Sounds like a surefire way to break a wrist or collarbone, to me. There's wet, and then there's a TX april thunderstorm wet. I ain't riding in the latter for nothing.

I've definitely started it a few times and quit to just ride around after the first set of 1 minute blocks.

What, and miss the 5x 2.7x FTP (over 500w for me) intervals after that... with the shrinking recovery time in between?

All I know is that whoever this Jon guy is, he's a jerk.

I did the offshore management thing for a bit, then we said screw it and I solo everything in house now. I've had as much of that as I can stand about now. I'd really like to get into managing a local team of decent people, and get myself out of the trenches.

Nice shot! Is this from an iPhone 6s, or do you have a Galaxy? Which IG filters did you apply?

I used to like it a lot more than I do now. It's just too thick and dense for me. I mentioned before that this is my preference:

Chocolaty like nutella, but way creamier and easier to dip/spread on stuff.

When I lived in Miami, I got caught in a full-on tropical summer squall while trying to get home from a ride to make it to work on time.

I was on Key Biscayne, which is basically a barrier island, and the storm blew in without any warning from the west. Heaviest rain you can imagine and instantly flooding roads, and the wind was probably gusting 35+ and shifting constantly.

I had to cross the bridge/causeway to get back to the mainland and it felt like a giant hand was trying to alternately toss me over the edge of the retaining wall into the ocean or into oncoming traffic. I was also new to road cycling, so that kinda soured me on rain rides for a while.
