Ride Elevation Profiles

1 Attachment(s)
How about posting some ride elevation profiles for the rides you like to do? I'll start.

This is the profile from today's ride. I needed to try a long, hilly, hot ride to see if I'm ready to do Climb to Kaiser. Verdict: I'm not ready. I suffered greatly when it started turning hot and the road turned upwards. My Polar 720 recorded 98F on one of the climbs, and I'm covered with salt.

This route starts in San Jose, at the base of Mt. Hamilton. It goes up and over Mt. Hamilton, down the back side, to "The Junction", right on Del Puerto Canyon Rd. to the town of Patterson. Then it returns the same route. If you're looking for a a hot and hilly ride, this one is hard to beat in the local area (South San Francisco Bay).

Wow terry!

I'm working my way up to a ride kind of like that one in September. Tour De Payne, 125 miles, 12500ft of ascent. If I'm lucky I'll be fit enough to even complete the ride.

Now on topic, I don't have any road profiles. Sorry :(. Today was a recovery ride though, so I'd say there was about 1000ft of rolling terrain over 20 miles.

Here's a ride I did in Summer last year. It looks as brutal as the one you posted Terry. It's the annual Australia Day ride with around 2000 entrants. The fast guys will do it under 7 hours, I took 11 hours. The numbers are in meters. (x 3.28 to get feet) The total climbing is 12,900f.

Terry I would never attemp a ride like that solo. You must be mad.:D

Unfortunately my (Mac) doesn't work with my Polar so I can't show any current climbs.

CHEERS.

Mark

The first profile is from a ride that I did last October at the New River Gorge in WV.

The second profile is about the best climbing that I can find where I live in Southern Ohio.

TheKillerPenguin 05-12-05 08:58 PM

How are you guys getting these profiles? Do your bike comps record elevation and you hook em into your computers?

Is that 2nd ride near Cincinnati?

I use Topo 5.0 from Delorme.

Here's a route I did a few times last year. It goes by every watertower and reservoir in the city of Seattle, about 50 miles inside the city limits. I call it the waterworks tour.

You're all insane!

It is 1/2 way across the state, near the southern most tip of Ohio. It is about 2hrs east along the Ohio River from Cincinnati.

Here's mine. Sorry that I don't have any fancy software.

___________/-----\_________________

The bump in the middle is a bridge over a boat channel I have to ride over, elevation change about 15ft.

I only wish I had hills. I'm looking forward to a transfer this summer to Marin County (SF Bay Area).

My favorite century is the annual King's Tour of the Quabbin in Massachusetts

I don't have a way to measure so I can only post the ones that another site has. This is a nice ride, not nearly the climbing of some of you but not flat either.

I didn't ride it solo by choice. None of my riding buddies were interested in a long/hot/hilly ride.

This is my ride tomorrow. Add in some hill repeats on both sides of the first peak and its what i'm doing, assuming the weather holds.

This is from our last posted club ride. I didn't attend the ride, but I live right about the 4.5 mile marker, and ride some of this route regularly.

Here's a little metric I'm planning to do soon. For the locals: up Hwy 9, down Page Mill, up OLH, down Hwy 84 then back home via Foothill. It's a decent amount of elevation gain, but the climbing is not all that difficult.

That's a nice route. I usually do it in the other direction to get a tailwind on skyline.

sorebutt 05-14-05 09:27 AM

This ride takes you to the coast and back.. It is just hard enough and long enough for me..:)

On the way out we climb up page mill and ride down to 84 via Alpine. take stage road south, and return via pascadero, 84, and go over the hills via OLH..

So you probably stop in at the San Gregorio General Store? Great place to refresh and listen to some music (on weekends).

San Gregorio's a nice place for a short stop, but the grocery & deli in Pescadero is better. They also have picnic tables out back.

True, but the rest rooms are inside in San Gregorio while Pescadero only has the porta-potty out back.

I think I've done a modified version of that route. And yeah, some of those climbs are brutal. Can you post a route card? I've also done the Seven Hills of Kirkland. I've been tempted to try the new Centennial Century (Distance: 102.5 miles. Climbing Elevation: 7,203.2'. Maximum Elevation: 636.5' (same as 11 Hills - Top of Union Hill). Minimum Elevation: 23.8'). There's also an 11-hill extended version (Distance: 73 miles. Climbing Elevation: 5,659.2' Maximum Elevation: 636.5' Minimum Elevation: 23.8')

Nothing too fancy, just a ride I like to do here by Columbus. A "roller" if you will, with a few short but challenging climbs.

cheg 05-14-05 09:27 PM

I don't have a route card, but I'll work on one.
