I get that question a lot too... like, uhhhm, I'm a Vegan, not a pescatarian, and fish is awful for you... you're eating pure mercury.. They shrug it off and then tell me i'm gonna get "sick" because "Omega 3's"... They don't even know what Omega's they get from fish nor what they do (DHA creation) nor that you can get the same from dark leafy greens, walnuts and flaxseeds..flax being the best option..
As for DR... yeah, he was kind of the guy that got me thinking on it really hard and his diet recommendations were what I started out with (yup, i used to kill 20 bananas a day) ..these days his channel is more about Youtube beef and his sick lifestyle (homie just jet sets with his beautiful ass gf, who is also a vegan cyclist and soooo lean) so yeah, Maven and The Vegan cyclist are good options... DR is more consistent with uploads though.. Maven's editing is top notch though... same with vegan cyclist..

To be fair he's a bit older so lets say he worked hard for 20 years, saved his cash, and then had a relative die to amass $800k-900k/ in an index fund. Guy doesn't seem to do much other than buy and ride bicycles so he'd live well off of the interest on that nest egg. Additional $5-10k/yr from youtube and or his banana books?

I have to agree with you. if it works for him good for him, but to me that is disgusting and excess. To your question, B-12 is found and prevalent in red meat. If I recall correctly B-12 is also found in other meats, but less so than red meat.

Deva DHA/EPA is what I take for omega 3. It's pretty cheap per pill and I don't have to worry about grinding flax seeds or other stuff.

I know a CAT1 vegan and a CAT3 vegan. The CAT3 has had issues with cramps on long road races esp in heat. Started taking vitamin B supplment, solved his cramps. I'm not a vegan but i believe in mixing plants and meat is the best way to go. A good read below on vegan

Since I'm not ethically shackled to my dietary needs it looks like vegan 90-95% and then throwing in the weekly steak is not necessarily a 'bad thing'. YMMV based on what you're looking for out 'from' or 'to' vegan-ism.

Vegan for 7 years come this november. been cycling for 5yrs now. If you go through my history, I posted a vegan topic awhile back in the nutrition forum. the response from those that ate meat where alarming. however, it is good to know thus far it has been tame here. if carbonfibreboy comes along or wolf(child)? I forget his name. they are surly trolls against vegans. fyi. don't feed the trolls.

There is a guy out here who is I think 42. He rode 17,000 miles last year which works out to 60 a day. He regularly averages 19-23 miles on rides up to 100 long. He is insane. I only know him from strava. I know he's a vegan because of a interview Vegan Body Building did. His wife said he did about 200 a week. I checked at the time and it was 398 avg.
My dad got curious one day when he saw him sweep a whole road of KOMs (15 mph winds) and looked him up.
I now stalk his account trying figure out where he replaced his legs with titanium rodes and his heart with a turbo.
He misses about 20 days a year it looks like mainly around the holidays.
He did a ride a couple weeks back where he said he had to bonk his way to 100 miles. I think he avg 19. He took a day off and come back and did a 23 avg on 100.
I use him as my measuring stick. I strive to PR as much as he KOM's (seriously)

But hey, your body/ethics, your choice. Far be it from me to tell someone else how to live/eat.
I believe avocados are also rich in omega 3s

You are most certainly not eating pure mercury in fish. If you want to be extra safe, eat sardines! They feed off of plankton and are super healthy and a very sustainable fish to eat.

the Omega 3 in the avocado is only a small amount of ALA acid, while none on the EPA & DHA acids (which is the fatty acids the human needs)
so I guess the required DHA & EPA of Omega3 is only come from consuming supplement?

I'm still gathering as much info before I plunged into vegan, so correct me if I'm wrong, but according to this article

DHA is what you're after. Conversion rates of ALA from flax into DHA aren't the most efficient. Fish oil has it because fish eat algae but it's easily obtained from algae pills. I use the deva brand ones. B12 is the only other thing worth supplementing if you don't drink or eat any foods that are B12 fortified. Flax has a lot of ALA in it and if one were to consume a few tablespoons of freshly ground flax seed everyday it would probably provide enough ALA to be converted into enough DHA but DHA appears to have a few other benefits so it seems wise to supplement. I use NutritionFacts.org | The Latest in Nutrition Related Research for real scientifically supported nutrition recommendations. It's run by an actual MD and not some random internet quack. Worth a look IMO.

We've got a vegan cat 2 on my team that is well on his way to his upgrade. He also refuses to drink coffee though. I think he might be a space alien???
