Ebay chinese/hong kong Giant TCR framesets

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ebay chinese/hong kong Giant TCR framesets

At this risk of starting a complete ****storm, I'm going to start a thread about this here to see if anyone has any experience or advice for me in regards to the thread title.

On Ebay, there are a number of apparently NOS Giant TCR framsesets available from China or Hong Kong. They are also being offered at a fairly low price point; see the link below for an example. Are these framesets legitimate?

Giant TCR Composite Carbon Frame Set Road Bike Frame Size M 500mm 700c White | eBay

I'd like to replace the current frame that I am using for my everyday/training bike that sees most of my miles. I want something a little more aggressive and racey, so a used or NOS Tarmac/Madone/TCR is what I want. For reference, I'm currently racing on an old caad9 and will be replacing it with a 2016 Venge near the end of the season.

Any testimonies, stories, or even second-hand reports are greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Tmonk

There are some guys here that build and ride unbranded Chinese frames and love them. Same with Chinese carbon wheels, which I'm thinking of getting. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that what you're looking at are counterfeit. That's not to saying that they aren't a solid frame. I'd do a search for chinese frames and I'm sure you'll find several threads on the topic that will have plenty of helpful info.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a branded frame from them, but at the same time, if I was building a bike I wouldn't have a problem buying an unbranded frame.

That's all I got. Sorry I can't help anymore than that.

TCR is aluminum, no? Not carbon unless Advanced. I think? Can't check for you right now. You should check it for yourself. In any case, I agree that the chance of counterfeit is high.

the frame material is carbon according to the description. Also, I agree that the chance for counterfeit is quite high.

Thanks for your advice guys.

Trek Superstore in Southern Califorina has the Madone 4 series frameset 2015 for $550 + tax and warranty.
Bike Gallery in Oregon has the same frameset. And no trade in was needed to get the $550 price.

Same year Madone with shimano ultegra $1800

I could be all wet on this, but I thought the Giant TCR comp frames have had internal cable routing for the past several years. I looked quickly to confirm that, but am not seeing the answer with surety. The pictures in your link show external cables, which I would think increases the likelihood of it being a replica.

To clear things up: counterfeit is different from unbranded. There are lots of reputable frame builders that sell "unbranded" (really just not labeled) frames. There are a few threads detailing builds if you do a google search. Buying a frame that is advertised as a name-brand frame that is obviously NOT from a reputable dealer is asking for trouble.
