Chapeau to Fuji (ASI) for kicking Specialized in the nutz when they tried to crush the Canadian veteran for using the name Roubaix in his wheel building business. Specialized took the stance that it was an infringement on their trademark only to be acutely reminded (by Fuji) that they were licensing the name Roubaix for their frame from Fuji and that Specialized had better pound sand on the matter.

I buy bikes because of how the look and make me happy when I see and ride them
Came from a
2011 Scott Speedster S30
2012 Giant TCR Composite 2
2010 Giant Defy Advanced 0
2011 Specialized Elite
2010 Specialized Roubaix Expert
2012 Fuji Gran Fondo 2.0 LE
Saw this color scheme back in 2012 and always wanted one
Finally got lucky on a good deal so picked it up
My level riding they all did fine for me
I just really like how the Fuji looks
The two Specialized were not too far off in looks as well though

Back in the not-to-distant past most experienced cyclists were vocal LBS supporters, and there was a bit of a stigma among that set associated with buying a bike online. That stigma still persists among many of the most experienced and fastest cyclists. While Performance has had bricks-and-mortar stores for years, many people who have been cycling for a while still don't think of them as an LBS because they can't walk in and talk to the owner. So all the ASI brands (Fuji, Kestrel, Breezer, etc.) along with Bikes Direct and the REI brands still carry the online-bike stigma. They are all fine bikes for the money, but it's still pretty unusual for me to see anyone fast on an online bike when I'm out and about and much more likely for me to see someone obviously new to cycling on a Fuji. Since people who want to be cool try to copy the people who are actually cool, Fuji can’t be cool because the fast guys don’t ride them. So the only people you see riding Fuji’s are people who are not cool and don’t care about being cool. That makes some people think that Fuji's must not be good bikes.

^ Good explanation! I don't know if it's all true but it sounds reasonable.

Interesting. Bottom line if it works for you and you like it, there's no need to be insecure about it-although I freely admit that I have an unsubstantiated irrational bias against Fuji (and Performance Bike). I would have to attribute this to the big S marketing machine and the fact that when I carelessly search Craigslist etc for Roubaix, a bunch of Fuji's come up. Like I said, irrational.

There is nothing wrong with the bikes. Some brands are cooler than others, that's the way branding works. Fuji sponsors the racers so people who want to be cool will associate their bike with the ones the pros are riding when in fact they are totally different frames with totally different components. So far, Fuji's sponsorships have not been enough to overcome the online-bike stigma and make Fuji cool. Sorry. Your bike is totally fine for riding. It's just not cool. I wouldn't worry about it. I have a lot of bikes and none of them are cool.

ASI bought the Fuji brand in 98. I can't say for sure, but I suppose they started selling them online shortly after that. Those were the early days of the internet, and I was one of those guys who wouldn't consider buying a bike or even parts anywhere but the LBS. If it's important to you and you find that you like cycling, you can pay a little more and get a cool brand for your next bike. That's the nice thing about bikes. No matter how many you have you can always use another one.

fuji has really steped up its game with the newer models like the transonic and their new Fuji sl being reviewed by bike radar and being called a great bike up to party with any of the top bikes.

I have a Nashbar unbranded CX frame which is just a Fuji without any stickers? Is that cooler than an actual Fuji or less cool
?

I love my SST, and haven't received any hate (yet?) from riders on other brands even when passing them on rides and going up the rollers/hills
