i dont know, i see fugi as giant as trek as specalized, they all look the same to me. now the old school pinns and stuff, the ole bikes, the steel tube things, those caught my eye, but the modern CF bikes,, they all look the same to me. just some big tubes with a huge alphabet soup on the downtube, i dont hate the fugi, but its so homogeneous to all other bikes,, its just gets lost.. something has been lost in the modern style ques its just bland efficient marketing first stuff... im sure they are great bikes.. but it seems like it is all cut from the same cloth... thats why i like dales so much... even with the big CANNONDALE all over it... it stands out and has a bit of a difference. same for the old school lite speed or merlins ,, eh.. we like what we like... its not about hate,, its just will never stir the emotions like the old school stuff for me..

Not true: Cyclists IRL pay attention to what other cyclists ride. I know I do, and I'm not even a bike snob. So if it's important to you to look cool to other cyclists, you should buy a cool brand. If you don't care what other cyclists think about your bike, you should save a little money and buy something else. I personally think it is pretty cool to see someone very fast on a crappy bike, but you don't see that too often.

True: People who don't ride bikes think cycling is stupid. I'm sure of this because my wife and teenage kids remind me all the time.

Interesting. Bottom line if it works for you and you like it, there's no need to be insecure about it-although I freely admit that I have an unsubstantiated irrational bias against Fuji (and Performance Bike). I would have to attribute this to the big S marketing machine and the fact that when I carelessly search Craigslist etc for Roubaix, a bunch of Fuji's come up. Like I said, irrational.
As for Fuji, they are just as good as any other branded bike out there. They simply sell their product with a different model. It is based on more volume and lower prices. The big 4 and many other bikes do not sell in that model. That does not mean that any of them are bad bikes. I like boutique bikes and smaller name brands. Some like the Big 4. Others like BD and etc. Who cares. I have been passed by Pinarello and Motobecane. I try to catch the rider, not the bike. The bike means nothing. I am sure that Lance could beat me on a Huffy.
Buy what fits your budget and what you like. Who cares why somebody who has never ridden a bike from wherever you buy it hates it.

Why would you hate Performance? I personally love the place. They are the only store in my town that has any amount of clothing, shoes and etc to choose from. I support my lbs and buy what I can there but when it comes to things that they do not have, it is Performance. I have never had a bad experience in their store. They are always nice and acomodating. I have never purchased a bike there or had my bike serviced their so I cant comment on that aspect. Their return policy, like REI's, is awesome. I had some gift cards for REI and bought my wife a mtb. She rode it twice and hated the sport. It collected dust for 8-9 months. They took the bike back with no questions asked. I bought an Electra Townie for the wife instead and all parties were happy.

What I remember about the older ones was flat handlebars, and shorty linear pull brakes that did not work well with the levers.

OK, not too shabby. I hadn't looked at this model for a couple of years, but it does look like a pretty decent, slightly less expensive alternative to a Trek 7.2 FX.

Not really, just stirring the pot. I actually think Fuji makes a fine product at both ends of the spectrum. Either a decent entry level bike to see if one likes the sport without too much out of pocket or their top end models which seem to be on par with any of the other big name bikes out there. But, if I'm dishing out top $$$ for a new bike I would be looking elsewhere, no definitive answer as to why really?

Not sure how that's relevant to the thread, but here you go: Click Here to see pictures and a brief description of all of my bikes. It's the same link as the URL under My Bikes in my user profile. None of them are cool by the way.

Fitness bikes are the most fun you can have on the road without feeling compelled to use clip-in pedals and shoes.
