Giant Defy 1 2016 vs Scott CR 120 2015
Hey guys I have to make a decision. The Defy 1 2016 with Disc brakes is aluminum and the price has dropped to $1150, went in to store to purchase. Then they showed me a Carbon Scott CR 120 for $1250 which they swear by. Guaranteed me that the ride is way smoother on the carbon even on paved roads which is what I will be riding the road bike on, also highly reduces ride fatigue, Really like Giant, have a Escape 1 and love it. But is the carbon too much of a good deal to pass up? How good is Scott??

No, have not had a chance to do that. Store swears by the Scott because it's carbon but how does the Scott brand compare to Giant. I am a Giant fan, I have a Escape 1 2016 which I love so easy to ride so I trust the brand... How good is Scott/ He told me they are big into racing and do not advertise a lot outside the racing world

Forget their "guarantee" - base EVERYTHING on how the bike fits you. How did they feel when yuo rode them?

I had a 2009 Scott CR1 Team with 105 that I loved. Just stiff enough, just comfortable enough for my moderate riding. That bike had an integrated rear hanger that was ripped off in a RD incident. I nearly paid $600 for an attempt to have it repaired I liked the bike so much. The current CR1s have slightly different geometry, but can still be a great bike. I upgraded on a super deal to an Addict SL, which is super nice (not that my skill level can take advantage).
I also know many in my area that swear by the Defy. Ride both, and you might consider that the Defy design is more current than the CR1. Not sure if it matters. Manufacturing, etc may allow newer designs to be a little better. Consider getting a fit to see which one might setup better for you.

Thanks for the comments. The concesus seems to be that the carbon the Scott at almost the same price of the Defy is the way to go. I am 57, weigh in at 225, in fair shape but comfort is a key component. I bought aGiant escape 1 a while back to get back into biking and I absolutely love the bike. but looking for longer rides which is why I want a road bike. 30 miles on a hybrid can take a toll, I bet it's much easier on a road bike
