Stem change - Length, angle or height?
I have a Trek 1.5 series (58cm) that's all stock. Now that I've been riding more seriously the last few years, and it's been extra windy around here this year, I'd like to get lower or more aero. On my hybrid, I removed a 1cm stem spacer and it actually made the bike handle and feel better. So I figured I'd try on on my road bike, removed one spacer and it felt horrible to me. Handling was worse, and I was just uncomfortable.
The stock stem is 100cm in length, and angles up slightly. Would I be better off going with a longer stem, or one with less of an angle (or both)? And what advantage/disadvantage does lowering the bars by removing spacers have? My goal is to be a little less upright and a little more aero.
