Wall Mount
What do you use/how do you hang a bike in the garage safely?
|
heavy duty threaded and vinyl dipped utility hook, walmart, in the tools section, $2. hang it vertically from the ceiling or down a wall with the wheels touching the wall.
|
you could also use 2 hooks, and hang it completely upside down, but then again, having your bike upside down for any reason is against the rules so . . .
|
I have one of these in the house and they're all of 6 bucks at Home Depot (the arms can flip up when not in use) -

$2 hooks from Home Depot. Drill pilot holes on the 2x4 stud: one high up to hang the bike with rear wheels touching the wall, and one low down when I don't want to hang the bike completely off the ground.
|
The two dollar hook screwed into the wall is the cheapest route. I have a couple of wall mount racks that work on the same principal as a hook in the wall, but it has hooks for two bikes and two shelves in between for gloves, helmets, shoes, etc. Sorry, no pictures but its pretty slick. Not sure who made it. I also have hooks in the ceiling and some bikes hanging above said wall mounts, and couple of hooks with old wheels, etc. (Too many bikes and bike stuff at my place!) I'll see about a picture of my wall mounts later today.

That's basically what I do too. But hung higher. |

This works well for me. I live in a co-op so space is at a premium. I had a bit of an issue getting the rack where I wanted it because of placement of the studs but I finally got it done.

I'm in the $2 hook club as well. At least for the secondary bike and my wife's bike. My regular ride leans against the wall in the bedroom.

Thanks to all who responded.
For some reason I thought you could damage the wheel by hanging a big from it. Instead of the bike jutting out from the wall, is there a way to mount it parallel? |
