Maybe I'm old, but I'm a huge fan of dedicated forums. So many social media sites like Facebook or ****** have sucked up discussions but I don't think they are well-suited for it. I play D&D (which, in 2016 was just starting a new boom) and the primary forum I read, laid out much like bikeforums, is far superior in content to the equivalent ****** or Facebook group.

It's the only social media I participate in besides a few basketball forums that are similar in structure/content.

It's really obvious that this one has barely a pulse. C&V has waaayyyy more activity, but the folks there are generally older and wiser, and have the entire history of cycling to chat about.

Sites on the internet that are open for the public to comment or engage with others tend to fall into this. Nonsense arguments and pissing contests over who knows more beats out actual conversation a lot. That's why I like C&V, it seems less prevalent there. (from what I've seen anyway, I haven't been here long admittedly)

I didn't know it got popular again. I started playing in in 1982 when i was a HS fresh. I used to design my own maps. When I went into the army it was popular for all the single guys living in the barracks. Wish there were people near me to play again, it's better than any video game.

This is a pretty active chat forum IMHO. Lots of stuff has moved to Facebook, which I loathe. So it's refreshing to have BF available.
One thing though BF needs to watch out for is dealing with trolls, we don't need trolls constantly turning people off to the forum and driving membership lower.

I think some of the trolls are kind of funny sometimes but what bothers me more is the tendency for people here to argue just because they like seeing their name on the screen. Example: One member might say the weather is fantastic today, where he lives. So immediately some other member will chime in and say that on average, the statistical weather data for that area has been trending worse and worse for decades. Real helpful.

I have been here since 2004. It was a bit more fun some years ago with PCad and CampagForLife posting. I get sort of tired of the "what frame should I buy, a Specialized or a Trek..." posts.

It's also harder to fiddle with parts to boost performance than it was a decade or two ago. Stuff works out of the box with no tricks or quirks. Kinda boring, if you ask me.
