CAAD10 105 @ 1100 or Synapse Carbon Disc @1600?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

CAAD10 105 @ 1100 or Synapse Carbon Disc @1600?

Hi there,

I have narrowed my choices down to the following 2:

CAAD10 105 - $1100
-- FSA Gossamer Pro cranks
-- Tektro R580 brakes

Synapse Carbon 105 - $1600
-- Cannondale Si cranks
-- Hydraulic disc brakes

I found both to be equally comfortable rides. Which one would you choose and why?

Thanks a lot!!

I'd get the CAAD12 at ~$1500, but between those two you mentioned I'd get the CAAD10. But it depends entirely on your riding style/fitness. CAAD has more aggressive geometry than the synapse. We can't help you unless we know more about your style of riding.

Is that Caad 10 NOS on ebay? I was looking at one for that price, a 52cm, yesterday and I was very tempted, but tempered by the knowledge of the wife's reaction if I bought a bike.

I'm cheap so I would go with the Caad and save money.

Thanks!!!

I am looking to ride for exercise... 9-12 miles a day with one r 2 log rides during the weekend (currently around 25-30 miles and hope to get up to 60-70 miles eventually).

I am open to both geometries as I think for what I am planning to do either could work.

It's a close out at my LBS...

Maybe get the bike you think is nicer to avoid that nagging though you should have gotten the nice bike that might occur later on.

I like both of them and they are upgrades from my current ride (Specialized Secteur)... Having never ridden either an all carbon bike or a bike with hydraulic disc brakes thought I would and see if this was a good enough deal to pull the trigger on... Or if it would be better to save a few bucks if the potential advantages are minimal

Why is either one of them an upgrade from your secteur?

My Secteur has entry level Claris/Sora components and the frame has started transmitting a lot more of the road buzz and fatigue as my rides get longer.

Both these bikes are upgrades in terms of the components and the frame (or at least that's what I felt)

I have a 105 Carbon Synapse, really couldnt be happier with the bike. Mine has mechanical rim brakes, 105s.

Honestly, ride them both. See if the shop will let you take them for a bit of a ride, not a just a parking lot spin. Thats the way to see which one you like more.
