That's messed up. What kind of partner are you to let your dog suffer from heat exhaustion? When you drink, your dog should drink, maybe more often if he's doing the running. There's no excuse for that unless the dog had to chase the perp over a long distance. I hope they don't give him another dog.

That surprises me, to be honest. Most K-9's and their partners are absolutely devoted to each other.

At the office, we're more likely to represent you if you killed someone v. killing/maiming an animal. Sad, but not sad. We have to have standards.
I remember three animal cruelty cases in ten years, and I did two of them. I still felt sad for the dogs, but believed the clients. One dog died, the other didn't. The third case involved a pigeon and a lot of poop on a patio.

I would think going with the gut would be imperative in those types of cases.

I don't think so, but now I'll give one a try as I like coconut. I usually have the chocolate brownie as it seems to have the most potassium.

On an even lighter note, today's "Usual Suspects" ride will not be in the alps, but I got the gang to agree to go up what is arguably the hardest climb in Chester county. It's a bit less than a mile but has some sections that are around 12-14%.
