Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ouch! Where is this climb? Gotta scope it next time I visit the in-laws in Tredyffrin.

@PepeM did you ever shop here when you lived in MIA?

I love that this is a thing. Sometimes I miss that city.

To non-Spanish speakers, the ñoooo is slang (coño). Basically means "Holy **** it's cheap!"

@LAJ, the awesome thing about your upgrade & success this season is that you totally deserve it. It's the product of tons of hard work in whatever conditions, just a tremendous perserverance. It's really just a great example for the rest of us: the truth is that hard work really does pay off. Knowing that and seeing you embody it is just something that keeps the rest of us going. I know that you are a modest guy and posting about success is maybe not the most natural thing for you, but it really is useful for other people to see.

As Ex has said to me: people make their own luck. Work hard, get it done & suddenly everyone else starts to see you as "lucky".

So it's just really really nice to see one of the good guys get what he deserves. Sometimes life doesn't work out that way, but it's happiness when it does.

I don't know what happened. It was on a long search for a suspect in the woods. I highly doubt neglect was involved, though.

I actually did that last time I was in town. In-laws live about a mile from there, and the covered bridge into Valley Forge was closed so I had to cross over that "little" hill to get to the park. Apparently I'm not even in the top 400

That is a good one. Haven't been up it in maybe 3 or 4 years.

I like riding in Hunterdon and Warren Counties. This climb is a good one:

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15235981

Maximum gradient is 14.1%

I have only been down this:

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15236220

Max gradient over 17%, and a sustained section in the double digits. And then there is Fiddler's Elbow, which tops out at around 20%. Never done that one, either.

Flowing Springs Rd in Birchrunville. It's pretty tough for around these parts.

PS Strava says it is 0.8 miles and 8.9% but it is certainly 12% in some sections.

I'm bad because I haven't even looked at the nutritional values in each one. The chocolate brownie is very good though. I had one this morning on your recommendation and it was even more delicious because of the known potassium content.

Know it well. Hate it much. Sometimes do a loop from VF out through Chester Springs and Knauertown and back through Kimberton and P'Ville. Was actually thinking about doing an abbreviated version (heading back on Hollow to Pughtown) on Saturday but I would have to drive out there from Fairmount super early to beat the heat.

Yup. I have learned to love it. But it's tough. My other favorite is Shed Rd from Birdsboro up to French Creek State Park. It's a lot longer (2.something miles) and consistent grade. But not steep like Flowing Springs.

I'm glad to hear that 12% is bothersome even to some non-fatties, 'cause 11% is a crawl in hell for this tubby.

I'm not exactly a fattie but even 5-6% hurts me if it's long enough. Saw some other post today referencing a mile long climb that's an "easy" 6%, that made me raise my eyebrows. Easier than 20%, yea, but not easy.

I like to finish up my easy mile of 6% with a quick 20% climb to get the blood flowing for the windy descent back into the valley to do it all over again.

In the early 90s Shed Rd. used to be on the MS 150 PA Dutch when it went from T-Town to Millersville Univ. I was a relative newb when it came to that sort of climbing. At the time, it was probably my most feared hill. I do loaded tours to French Creek at least once a year but get to Park Rd. via 345 from Hopewell. That's not bad even carrying a full load. Then you eventually climb from Park Rd. to the campground. 131' in just under .4 miles, with grades over 8%.
