11-28 Cassette. Short or Medium Cage Rear Derailleur?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

11-28 Cassette. Short or Medium Cage Rear Derailleur?

For Shimano with 53-39 front and 11-28 in the rear, do I need a medium cage GS rear derailleur or can I use a short cage SS derailleur?

Other than the option of going to a very large sprocket in the future, is there an advantage to one over the other?

Looking to order a groupset maybe as early as today so responses from those who know for sure are appreciated.

Short is enough. Other advantages? Weight by a few grams, maybe slightly more consistent chain tension across all gears. Nothing to get too excited about.

The geometry is slightly different at least for the newest stuff. If you intend of using smaller cassettes in addition to 11-28, then go short. If you intend on ever using the 11-32 go long. GS plays best with only the 11-28 and 11-32. SS plays best for everything between and including 11-23 and 11-28.

I think long cage actually has slightly more even tension for the same amount of cable wrap. short cage has fewer grams and a shorter cage which is less likely to snag on things or bend.
