Cant decide between 2 bikes.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cant decide between 2 bikes.

Both the same frame. One, I like the looks of better and comes with 105's. The other bike has Ultegra, but I don't like the looks quite as much.

I want to be pragmatic and get the Ultegra, but at the same time I want the better looking bike.

What to do.

Get the better looking bike. Upgrade components later. Not that 105 is lacking much from Ultegra.

Funny, but I've been debating and researching the 105/Ultegra thing myself.
From what I've read, there really doesn't seem to be much difference in the 2 other than the fact that Ultegra is a little lighter...and a good bit more expensive.

I'm considering a Focus with Ultegra and a BMC with 105. I'm not sure which I like better.
I currently have 2 bikes with 105, so Ultegra would be "different" in that regard.

I guess my head says "105" and my heart says "Ultegra".
Tough choice...can't go wrong with either, though.

You will want to ride the bike more if you are in love with how it looks. Everything else you can change except for that.

An alternate but slightly more costly solution would be to swap the components while the bike is brand new. You'll get a lot more $$ for them than later when it's all used. It may cost more upfront, but it'll be break even in the long run and you would have the bike as you want from day 1. And most LBS will discount the Ultegra components since they can sell the 105 stuff easily. Or you can buy the Ultegra online and sell the 105 easily.
