Made a Strava web app that compares wind speeds in segments

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Made a Strava web app that compares wind speeds in segments

Hi, so I made a Strava web app that lets you compare how wind affected each person on a segment's leaderboard! You can check it out here, let me know what you think! Thanks a lot

The "My API Application" doesn't appear in my Strava settings page. How do you make that option appear?

Seems like this is for premium members only?

If they made this a premium feature I'd be seriously disappointing. It worked a short while ago, I got all my friends to use it. In fact, I don't have a paid account either so clearly it worked...

documentation needs some improvement. I can't figure out what you're asking me to do. I am under 40 and reasonably tech savvy.

It's a cool project but I'm not sure of its usefulness or even its reliability. You don't have to even be smart to realize that there are so many factors not taken into consideration here such as localized wind barriers like mountains or trees, drafting, buildings, hills, valleys, structures (natural and man-made) that alter the course of wind. I like it, don't get me wrong, and I think it's great...but not sure how usable or accurate the information is on specific segment.

That's true, thanks. I tried to make it as accurate as possible by taking account direction and speed for both the wind and the rider. There's a limit to how accurate it can be but to a certain point if it's flat without any major obstructions it should indicate _something_.

I always just assume that anyone that does a segment or KOM faster than me had a monsoon-like tailwind... And I had a headwind.

I like using Strava, but don't quite get this level of involvement. I mean, weather variables are just one of many uncontrollable factors in relative rank placings, so what's the big deal? What do we do with that information? Resent the KOM because they had a tail wind? Feel cheated because you had a headwind? I'm not seeing the constructive application of the info, I guess.

Use it to flag their ride obviously.

It's just a bit of fun, and I think in the OP's case, an interesting programming diversion. We all know that everyone ahead of us on the KOM leaderboard did so with a tailwind, someone pulling them, and "mechanical doping"!
