Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best way to save?

I am wondering what would be most cost effective for what I would get.

I can get a CAAD12 Ultegra for about 1250. I would need to purchase a PM (used)
or

I can get a used CAAD10 5 for 700. Have money left over to swap out crank and get a PM (used) or Swap out the 105 for rival 11spd and use my current PM.

Thanks!

From a cost effective standpoint, the caad10 sounds cheaper, especially if you swap out for your current rival setup.

I think the better question would be, do you like the used bike or the new bike more.

I would personally get the CAAD10, swap your Rival groupset and sell the leftovers. That being said, both are a pretty good deal. I couldn't imagine riding without power for any amount of time.

Not at all. I'm a numbers guy and like to objectively view my efforts.

Thanks!
Buy used/NOS parts and build a bike yourself. Or wait for end of the year clearance. MY cross bike is ultegra/DA with FSA wheels and pricey snow tires, built for around $600; my latest CF roadie's sticker price, added by the LBS from which I bought it, is $2500, I bought it for $800 shipped from Canada.
