Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Health questions

ONe of the main reasons i want to get serious about biking is because i need something to fill the void that has come up since i stopped playing football in highschool. I've gained zero weight, but thats because i've lost muslce and gained fat.

Anywhere i can get an idea of how much work i can get done on a bike.

Say, a 20 mile ride an 60-90 mins...about how many calories would one expect to burn.

https://www.caloriesperhour.com/

Check out the calculators section. This will give you a rough idea. If you want something that will do a little better of a job, check out some of the Polar (or other brand) heart rate monitors. Many of them include a calories burned counter. Keep in mind that these calculators don't take into account wind and terrain at all (although the Polar, or other, heart rate monitors do take this info into account). Good luck!

Thanks a ton.

It just occured to me that my mom bought a heart rate moniter some time back, no idea why...she never uses it. I'm sure i could steal that from her.
