Let's face it: long socks are pointless

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Let's face it: long socks are pointless

I don't even think anyone would disagree with this would they?

I understand the shaving of the legs. I now trim mine with a half guard as having my wholly mammoth hair sticking out of my skin tight lycra just didn't make sense.

But for real. The socks ... come on guys. Aside from looking pro (and by 'pro' I mean idiot) it's pretty Fredish in my mind.

It's pointless. We strive for the least weight and the most aerodynamic we can get. Personally I look at everyone with long socks as a Fred, even if they are (and most are) faster than me.

I've heard some say they find it not masculine for men to show their ankles. Never thought that but I won't argue it directly but rather just that we already are wearing skin tight clothes that most would by no means consider manly.

On the real: Socks are for our feet, not legs. Wear long socks with boots.

I recently went for a short training ride with "normal" ( non cycling) ankle socks on, and had a low-speed spill that scratched up my left outside ankle...longer socks might have saved my skin a bit...

Long socks aren't the only things that are pointless.

You should let them know you look at them as Freds, I'm sure it will make them change their mind.

I wear short socks for no other reason than a razor-sharp tanline halfway up my calf would look even more weird than a razor-sharp tanline just above my ankle.

How long of socks are we talking about?

Just profane, or really offensive?

Yada, yada, yada..

The old worn out, "If I'm not getting paid..."

Don't like something, don't wear it but don't make it a moral issue.

Nothing to do with morality. I simply don't like long socks, but I'm willing to change my mind with the right offer.

Some like long socks. Some like short socks.
I like the medium. Everything in moderation.

I saw you looking at my socks yesterday. Was wondering what you were thinking. Was worried you liked my legs.

Long socks are nice in the dark of winter but if you only ride on pleasant days, you don't need socks unless your feet haven't HTFU.

West of the Rocyy Mountains is like a different planet, and not just for fashion. OP is from Phoenix where they never heard of winter.

Short socks are for triathletes. Argyle or die. Don't worry about it.

Young pup.

Back in my day, we just grabbed the pedal with our prehensile toes.
