I wish that the industry would pick one standard for all bikes and stick to it.
The current situation is analogous to every home builder and appliance manufacturer having competing standards for electrical outlets.
Ridiculous.

It has to start somewhere. Lets not be so negative about it and let it trickle down to us humble roadies. I'm just stoked that the industry has come to their senses about this BB issue we all have been suffering through the past several years.

The last road frame I bought was a 2014 Argon18 Krypton. It came with threaded BB cups and external cables. I was willing to tolerate a little more weight to get those two features.

The 15th standard BB probably not going to take off...
Yea my Seven was put together right around the time BB30 was starting to make waves....Seven did a double take asked me, "are you sure you want a BSA threaded BB and not BB30?"....Yup

I put off getting a modern gravel bike until I found once with a thread MegaExo bb. Not interesting in trying pressfit, no benefit for me. Glad it might be on the way out.

I don't get the big deal about creaking bottom brackets. Threaded bottom brackets creak all the time. The solution is grease to quiet the creaks or Loctite or teflon tape (something to fill in the gaps caused by loose fits). Apparently press-fit bottom brackets creak, too, and the apparent solution is grease to quiet the creaks or Loctite or something else to fill in the gaps caused by loose fits (I just ordered my first BB30 frame so I'm sure to learn a bit more). I'm sure once enough frame builders or other bottom bracket vendors besides Chris King start doing T-47 and ease up a bit on their QC those will creak, too. It is guaranteed to creak, actually, because that's what metal on metal contact does. And guess what the solution will be?
At least BB30 in its ideal form does/did something 'new' (narrower cranks and a 30mm spindle).

It made bicycle frame manufacture cheaper and easier for OEMs.

This is a huge step in the right direction.
Getting back to BSA or another "standard" is a lesser concern to me than simply getting rid of the entire press fit concept. Press fit is a garbage idea that ruined an entire generation of bikes. Like integral seat posts, it's a dumb idea that should be forgotten. Kudos to bike makers who realized it was a crap design from the first and stayed away.

Even in the USA, there are several different 220V standards, as well as high amperage 110V standards.
Fortunately most people just ignore the 20A 110V plugs.
There is almost no standardization of DC and low voltage AC plugs and outlets.

I will not buy a frame that does not feature a standard BSA threaded shell and external cable routing. Fortunately the Asian carbon vendors have been cooperative in supplying bare frames with these features, for a fraction of the price of 'name' or 'branded' frames.
What would be the purpose of a larger threaded shell? Don't know - except that marketers have been trying to sell us on: 'stiffer'. But it does make a lot of sense to have the BB bearings on the inside of the frame, in terms of water/grime protection.

I will say that so far I have had no problems with my external bearing Campagnolo Cups (Ultratorque).
I could imagine a frame built with internal Campagnolo compatible bearing cups, although perhaps a frame builder might not choose to cater to a single proprietary bearing cup design.
