Help me find a lower headset bearing for my Roubaix

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Help me find a lower headset bearing for my Roubaix

I bought a Roubaix Frameset on eBay and the description read:

It includes all the little frame pieces, bb30 bearings and clips, headset pieces (EXCEPT THE LOWER HEADSET BEARING)
So I thought, "what the heck, this should be pretty easy".

I was wrong.

I called Spesh and they told me the part kit I need is #S122500005, but they it's out of stock and "it could be months till we have it".

I called pretty much every single LBS I could find in San Francisco (I'm visiting here from South America) and they don't have it either.

SO, at this point, I can't build my bike because I'm missing -at least- a lower headset bearing. It seems like my only choice is to buy an aftermarket one, but apparently, it's not that easy because nobody seems to know the exact measurements, which brings me here: please help me find the lower headset bearing I need.

This is everything that came with the frame set:

Which other lower headset bearing could I get for my bike? FSA? Cane creek? And if so, would any of you guys know the type/size I should get?

Getting the part # is the hard part!

You need a shop that sells Specilized bikes.

Cynergy Cycles here in Santa Monica could probably help; give them a call at 310-857-1500.

Called twice, they would only give me the part number and say "your LBS should be able to get it from the tech site". In fact, the second time they gave me a NEW part number, I called Mike's Bike in SF and they ran the part number (W900930002) and nothing shows up on the site.

Ugh.

I assume this is an integrated headset. Why not just measure the dimensions of the frame where the bearing presses in and get the appropriate bearing that will fit the hole? I have my doubts that Specialized used a bearing size that is super uncommon, but I guess you never know... they are known to be bastards.

Cane Creek's site allows you to specify the bike and learn what headset product is needed. Once you know that, you can either buy a whole new headset or just go on Amazon and search for the specific bearing included in the set by size.

I don't know if this helps any but I just got a 2010 Roubaix Expert frame from eBay and it came with a Cane Creek head set, so there are options out there. I also have a 2004 Roubaix that I haven't started putting together yet, if your bike is the same frame as that one, I could try to figure out what bearings are in it since it doesn't have a stem on it yet and I can slip off the forks easily to take a look.

+1. Most of these bearings are standard outside of the bike industry.

It's easy to buy separate Cane Creek bearings. That's how you put together a set for Cervelos and Workswell -066s. You have to buy the 1 3/8 inch (aka 49 mm) bottom bearing. No, 49 mm is not supposed to equal 1 3/8 inch.

Or call 800-234-2725. They guys who work the phone are excellent. They will tell you exactly what you need.

That's what I was thinking too. Theoretically, it should be fairly easy to match the original bearing spec with a generic new one. But full headsets aren't ridiculously expensive. And you could just use the new or old one for parts later.

It's been a while since I bought an integrated headset. When I did, I learned (and quickly forgot) how there is a system of nomenclature for integrated headsets, and I believe that nomenclature should identify the spec (i.d., o.d., lower and upper contact angle) of the lower and upper bearings? Like I said, I've forgotten most of that stuff because I just don't deal with it very often.
