My first whats the best .... (floor pump)

Ok,

This is my first "what's the best..." thread. I did a search and could not (easily) find a similar thread. I am looking for a floor pump. Any suggestions? In the threads I did find, I here good and bad about Blackburn, Park, and Joe Blow. I'm looking to spend $30 - $40. I'll take definitely buy, and definitely don't buy answers.

Thanks,

Steve

Tell you the truth, most floor pumps are decent. I got a Performance Hurricane pump, and it gets my tires to 120 psi without sweat.

Frame/mini pumps, you have to be more picky about though...

I'll second that. I own a 20 year old Silca, which was endorsed as the best then, and still is now. 3 years ago I went shopping for some parts for it, like a new piston seal and a new valve head. For less than I would've paid for them I got a completely new plastic floor pump (Avenir) from my LBS. It works just fine and will probably last just as long as that rebuilt Silca would've so long as I don't run it over with my car.

I bought a generic Supergo pump on sale and it's done fine for me. Easy to get up to about 110-115psi. Cost about $25. I'm sure you can find a model that has more "features" but all that matters to me is that it puts air in the tires with minimal fuss.

Floor pumps are overrated. Get a cheapass compressor.

Topeak Joe Blow. The gauge is at the top so you can read it. Its tall. Its sturdy. It fits all kinds of different valves. It even allows you to release pressure from the tire while its still hooked to the pump.

the Joe Blow Sport did quite well in a German test recently and I have this one so I can confirm that it does the job

Specialized floor pump for 29.99 its a great allly. I haven't had any problems with it.

Pfoot 05-19-05 11:34 AM

I have a blue one from Park Tools that I like a lot.

RDhrdNDPUTupWET 05-19-05 11:38 AM

I have a blackburn 29.99 model, not sure of the exact name/model number but the guage is on the bottom and it works like a champ presta/schrader in same head, no adapter. Would probably buy it again, but there may be better out there, to me a pump is a pump as long as it puts air in the tire.

I use a Bell floor Pump called "the Judge" $20 no complaints.....smooth and easy

Cerberusgl 05-19-05 01:28 PM

I miss my Silica floor pump, there is a happy ex-roommate pumping up his tires somewhere right now.

Adgooroo 05-19-05 03:52 PM

Had a 20+ year-old Silca pump that I thought was the be-all floor pump, until I saw what I could get in a new floor pump for $30 at the LBS (probably less online). A gauge you can READ, a locking lever that WORKS, and a pressure release valve that eliminates the mad fumble to get the pump off the valve. Mine is Trek/Wrench Force; there are others that are comparable.

nothing compares to a nice Silca Pista for style and quality. And all the parts are easily replaced and serviced.

+1. This pump is great!!! It makes getting the tires to 120-130 psi a snap.
