BB30 compatibility question
 

I purchased a SRAM BB30 Rival 22 Yaw Crankset to install in a 2008 Cannondale Supersix BB30 bottom bracket. It will not go into the Cannondale BB30 bottom bracket bearings. Do I need a SRAM BB30 Bottom Bracket Assembly. Is it compatible?

Check one or both of the bearings are not crooked in the shell. They should be pushed up flat against the circlip ring that's behind the bearing.

It should go in. Apply a generous amount of grease to the spindle and bearing surfaces. Then if it's still a tight fit use a soft hammer to gently tap it in.

All BB30 bearings are the same size 42x30x7mm regardless of brand. The Sram bearings are no different to any other.

BB30 is BB30. Is either your bottom bracket or your crank actually BB30A or wider than standard BB30? Sometimes a crank has to be coaxed into the bearings, and a mallet and grease can help. Keep the mallet clear of the chain rings or you can bend them.

BB30A wouldn't make a diffrence in the spindle getting through the bearings, it just allows you to use cranks with both 68 and 73mm shells so you would need correct spacers depending on you BB shell. The spindle is the same width either way and the bearings are the same. I have a SRAM Red 22 crankset on my BB30. it works great, but I did have to tap it a bit to get it through the bearings the first time

That is true.

There is also the possibility that your Supersix doesn't actually have a BB30 bottom bracket in it. Yes, the frame is designed as BB30, but it could have an adapter in there to change it to 24mm.

I finally had time to install the BB. Followed your instructions and all went well. I had to use a rubber mallet to get it started then it just slide in the rest of the way. I can't tell you how much your advice helped me install my first BB. Thanks to everyone again I really appreciate it.

Did you check one of the bearings wasn't slightly crooked? I would hate for you to be riding around with a slightly off bearing that causes issues later on to your frame.
