Heart rate monitor that's not

A chest strap and actually works?

Any suggestions?

In for information.

Most ones other than the Garmin "Premium" strap do the job...what kind of connectivity are you wanting? Bluetooth? ANT+? Both?

Budget?

The Mio Link works for me.

Bathwater 09-21-16 07:35 PM

I like my Mio Link as well.

Mio Link/Velo, third-ed.

For the OP, the Mio Link which the others are talking about is optical.

Sounds like you want to look into optical sensors.

There are many brands and models available. Check DCRainmaker.

Mio link it is. Thanks.

DrIsotope 09-21-16 10:37 PM

There's a fulfillment seller on Amazon offering the Mio Velo for $60, which is less than what you can typically find the Link selling for.

Better late than never: Mio Link for me as well. Nobody's chest strap works for me until I have about 20 minutes of sweat accumulated. Gels don't help. The wrist heart monitor never fails me. Be aware you need a separate receiver-display.

I'm not using a Zephyr strap type HRM. I bought because of it being rechargeable, my cheap one was going through a battery a month. I do use electrode gel on the pads, started doing it with the cheap one and just do it as a matter of habit now. The biggest compaint I have about the Zephyr is it's only BT 2.0 and requires an older version of Strava (Strava no longer supports older BT standards).

Scosche RHYTHM+ Dual ANT+/Bluetooth Smart Optical HR Band In-Depth Review | DC Rainmaker

From DC Rainmaker re Scosche RHYTHM+

"It still remains the optical HR sensor I use and trust the most, both in my day to day training as well as to use in concert with traditional chest straps when doing optical HR sensor comparisons."

I use the Garmin Premium HRM with the soft strap. I fully wet the strap under the tap or with a water bottle before I put it on. It works every time. The only time I have trouble is when I forget to wash the strap. It works optimally when washed every 5-7 uses. A sure sign it's time to wash the strap is when it starts to get crinkled and doesn't snap back to being flat like it was out of the box.

I'm using the Garmin HRM Run strap that came with my FR620 watch. No issues in M almost two years. I slightly wet the indicated areas and works just fine.

Mio Fuse worked fairly well for me. Battery was disappointing, and don't ever wear it under a jacket sleeve.

For you guys that use the Scosche.
Do you end up with a white tan line on your arm and who does it work with the addition of sunscreen?

I use SPF 50 and the Scosche works fine. I wear it in pretty much the same spot every ride and there's no tan-line visible. I'm surprised, frankly, but there you have it. Of late, I've been riding 10-12 hrs per week.

DrIsotope 09-23-16 10:49 AM

I've got a gleaming white tanline from my Mio Link.

I use Coppertone Sport SPF 30 when I ride (usually between 8-10 AM). I get a slight mark but it does not stay long. Usually gone the next day or so.
