I was just looking at a web site for this health thing one of my high school classmates has going, and it describes her husband as an anti-aging MD, whatever that is.

She looks great though.

Speaking of stupidity, I signed up for back-to-back races this weekend. :o

It was Strava power.

Haha, one time when I was an intern on emergency, the internists came to find me to tell me a dog was coming in through the ER for renal failure. He was a patient of the IM service who had previously had a unilateral nephrectomy for a renal carcinoma. Only one kidney left and I was tasked to spend the night getting it functional again. Check. Renal failure, piece of cake, I could treat that with two hands tied behind my back. ;)

Eventually the case shows up and the vet student on ER goes to take the history, gather the records from the referring vet, do a physical exam.

He comes back with the dog and I'm raring to go, I start rattling off every thing we're going to do and what we're going to do after that if that doesn't work and so on...

The student interrupts me- "But Dr Heathpack, I can't hear any lung sounds when I ascult the chest".

Hmm, "Righty then. We're going to start with a physical exam".

So it turns out the dog wasn't in renal failure. He was azotemic from dehydration (his vet hadnt checked a urine specific gravity) and hypercalcemic from his metastatic cancer. He had no lung sounds because he no longer had air in his lungs, just hundreds of pulmonary mets.

Amazing, a physical exam can actually help you figure out what's going on in your patients.

Oh, thanks, smart guy. I was going to try to claim that I took the Stages off of my Propel and temporarily put it on my trike.

Back in my racing days, I'd do four a weekend. Masters in the AM and then Cat 1,2 in the PM, get up the next morning and repeat.

One year, I did almost 50 races including cyclocross. Never two cyclocross in one day, though.

I have to admit, though, that two cyclocross races in a weekend can be pretty rough. Even one a week over a long period can be debilitating. CX is rough on the body.

I'm on the two-a-day plan, when available. I do better, if the races are more than 15 minutes apart.

Some of my cohorts will race two races on Saturday and Sunday. I'm at the bike shop on Saturdays, so...

Incorrect. My 30 second peak power segment from yesterday's ride was 475w.

The worst was that I might get up at 3AM for an 8:30 Masters race in Indianapolis on Saturday and get done at 4PM with the 1,2s. Drive back to Illinois, re pack and get up at 3AM again to drive to Des Moines on Sunday.

Good thing that I had a decent boss or I would have been fired on some of those sleepy Monday mornings.

For you cross fans out there, this is some exciting shizz-

Throwing elbows, world champion's jersey, foot race in a sand pit. Almost looks like fun.

They are the dopers of the med profession, it seems.

correct. They also seem to treat a whole lot of masters athletes :innocent::innocent:

I got an email from the hospital about a "Bake Sale" they were holding.

Of course, I initially got excited because I thought it was a "Bike Sale."

I may still go to the bake sale and see if they have any brownies. Scale said 143 this morning so I think I can handle the calories.

p.s. the gravel tires came in yesterday. I am hoping to try some off roading this weekend, weather permitting.

My plan is to put them on an aluminum Nashbar road frame I have as a backup/project bike (I built it up 2 years ago but have only ridden it a few times), it's set up with mostly shimano 105 5700 gear. I am pretty sure clearance won't be a problem, but if it is then I will try on the Hab or the Roubaix.

Stay tuned.

True. Any of the physicians who specialize in "Anti-Aging" or "Hormone Specialists" or "Mens Health" are typically dopers. Not always, but usually.

Just kidding, really. I'm a big believer in the wonders of a healthy, natural diet. Not real trusting of the supplements and big pharm industries.
