LeMond dealers in Dallas or Houston?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

LeMond dealers in Dallas or Houston?

Does anyone know of LeMond dealers in Dallas or Houston that carry good (lots of) inventory? I'm in Austin and the dealers here just don't stock any LeMond. Might be willing to road-trip before ruling out LeMond. I have the dealer list from the LeMond web site, but that doesn't mean they carry anything. Figured I'd ask here before calling around long distance.

As a rule of thumb no bicycle shop is going to stock lemond. Some of the larger shops may have one or two, but for the most part if you want one your LBS will have to order it. Seeing that lemond is owned by Trek, any Trek dealer will be able to order one for you.

Weird. My LBS stocks mostly Treks and LeMonds. Not as many LeMonds as Treks, but quite a few. They're not a big shop either. Guess they're unique.

My local Trek dealer stocks about 1/2 as many LeMonds as they do Treks (and they aren't a big shop by any stretch of the imagination).

You're lucky. My local Trek dealer, listed on the Lemond site as being a dealer, doesn't carry ANY and has never so much as mentioned Lemond in 3-4 visits there discussing a new road bike.

I started emailing dealers (from the LeMond dealer locator) in Dallas and Houston. First reply:

"I really do not have any LeMonds either."

I don't know who's thumb you are using to take that measurement but i would check it real close. Every LeMond dealer I have ever been to has plenty of LeMonds. I hit three major cities and about a dozen or so dealers before I bought one in March. I didn't see anything to back your rule of thumb theory up.

There are a lot of dealers listed in Dallas, but not a lot of bikes. What are you looking to try in particular? Richardson Bike Mart is about the biggest up here and they don't have but a handful. Tete Course I know I've seen. Not much else.

I'd like to try their all-steel or steel-carbon frames and I'd 99% likely buy a model with either 105, Veloce or Ultegra groups. Those combinations would include:
- Zurich, Buenos Aires or Versailles (all on the same steel spine / carbon cockpit frame)
- Croix de Fer or Sarthe (the same all-steel frame)

I would call the Richardson Bike Mart at the Richardson location and ask for Louis. I'd say they would be your best shot. I know Trek doesn't have any more Croixs or Sarthe in any size over 51cm right now. I'd bet Bike Mart has at least one of the others kickin' around, may not be your size though.

Whatyaknow. I found a Versailles and a Sarthe in Houston in my size. Now just have to decide if it's worth road-tripping to test-ride. The notion that dealers aren't carrying them much anymore doesn't give me a warm fuzzy about future support. I'd prefer to buy from my LBS to help build a support relationship there. We'll see.

Ordered my Sarthe from an Arlington dealer 3 weeks ago. Found out the other day ETA is now mid June.

I would/should have driven to Houston...

I got my Alpe D'Huez from Bicycles Plus in Snyder Plaza last August. They came down a bit on the price and it has lifetime tuneups. Last time I was in, they still had a pretty good selection.

Out of eight lemond dealers in my area only one actaully has any in stock. Maybe your area is different, but as a whole when you walk into a cannondale dealer you will find cannondales, if you you walk into a lemond dealer you may not actually see anything but the lemond catalog.

The bicycle business is pretty strange if you ask me - I've been shopping a couple of months now and have posted several times about dealer weirdness - Bianchi dealers who aren't, 2 shops who each think the other shop in town is the Felt dealer, LeMond dealers who never mention the brand and have zero product... it would be comical if it wasn't so frustrating.

We have like two LeMond dealers here... One is a Lemond/Cannondale/Specialized dealer.. the other a Trek/Lemond dealer. Both have a large number of Lemonds in stock. The Cannondale dealer has more Lemonds than the Trek dealer does. Neither has a Sarthe, but the Trek dealer has a Criox de Fer in a 52 or 53... Overall, both have an acceptable selection of bikes.

Try Bicycles Inc. in Keller. Ask for Rick. http://bicyclesinc.com/site/intro.cfm

They used to stock quite a few Lemonds. I moved away more than a year ago so I don't know what they have in stock right now.

I bought my Zurich from them and they have been a good store to work with.

The LeMond/Trek dealer also carries Fisher, but I don't think they carry Klein. The other one doesn't carry Fisher, Trek or Klein.. just LeMond along with C-dale, Specialized, Seven, and Independent Fabrications

HOUSTON, TX LEMOND DEALER:

Hands down, I'd recommend Southwest Schwinn.
6607 S Braeswood Blvd, Houston, TX 77096
Phone: (713) 777-5333

They are a premium Trek and Lemond dealer, and stock plenty of LeMonds. Plus, they have the good old-fashioned ethic of a bicycle shop that will actually take their time and help you, not just try to sell you and get you out the door.

I'd suggest Richardson Bike Mart, Whiterock Lake location. Talk with Joe. Great guy, very helpful.

Heard rumors that Lemond my be on the way out. They are no longer producing the Fillmore. All three teams listed as sponcered on the Lemond racing web page are now using other brands.

Any one have any info?
