Shoes and helmet are two things that I think should be bought locally, at least the first time around - fit is so important and I'm too impatient (and it's too much of a pain in the butt) to do that via mail with an online outfit.

Banned.
Helmet. Saddles. Shoes. Always go to the store and try them on first. I went through TONS of shoes before I finally did this. Would have saved lots of $.
Also, that seems expensive for those pedals. Might want to shop around. And 105 pedals are $20 and exactly almost the same

Good advice. As an example, LBS had me try Bontrager, Giro, and SIDI. I did not make a choice based on looks but on fit. I Chose GIRO because they fit/felt the best and now will have no problem ordering on-line if I choose because I know that brand fits and what size (European) to order.

+1 to trying on shoes locally. But also buy those shoes at the LBS if you find a pair you like. They went through the trouble of stocking the inventory, paying the salesperson to answer your questions and fetch you shoes to try on, and all the other overhead. If you take advantage of the LBS and then buy online, the LBS may not be around next time you want to sample their inventory.

Yup. I abhor showrooming.
