What particular type of knee injury are you referring to?
Stem cell treatment may be of benefit in cartilaginous damage, though the evidence is not very strong thus far.

A coworker has had it for shoulder injury. It was a very painful procedure to extract the stem cells and ultimately it didn't offer any lasting benefit.
However, a friend of mine has been going to Mexico for stem cell treatments for what was ultimately diagnosed as Lyme Disease. So far this has been life changing for her in a very positive way.

The order for prolotherapy in increasing cost is dextrose --> platelet rich plasma --> stem cell. I fixed a knee injury with the dextrose and didn't have to go to the others. Check out Caring Medical's videos on youtube.
