Simple Newbie Question

Hi I am a new person to the cycling world and was looking for some advise. I am in the market for a new bike but I have a limited budget which makes my selection pretty small. But I came across a used bike at my LBS and I was wondering what the disadvantages would be in buying a used bike? I have taken it out on multiple test rides and the bike seems fit me well. Its a Cannondale R500 that is pretty much stock except a Ultegra rear Derailleur and they are asking $800. It is a 2 year old model and I dont know what kind of mileage it has but it seems to be in good shape. All the gears shift smoothly and the frame is great shape. I was just looking for some input from some more experienced minds than mine. So does this seem the way to go or should I just buy a new bottom of the line bike? (because that is all I can afford right now)

Thanks, ColinT

True that theres nothing like a new ride, but you have to check how good the previous owner has treated it, and not only that, but if that owner did a lot of riding e.g. >1500 miles in that two year.s

Or you can get the Trek 1000c. Everything the Trek 1000 has, with a compact frame, inline brake levers, and adustable stem and a suspension seat post you can sell on Ebay.
