David Hasselhoff is a roadie?

I heard that David Hasselhoff is a hard core roadie. Besides Robin Williams, what other hollywood types are roadies?

Jerry Seinfeld? I thought he lost a leg last year?

Haha, that's the image I'm talking about.

Serpico 05-23-05 02:11 AM

Seinfeld--yeah, he considers himself a "serious roadie" and is quite proud of it. Not sure what he rides, his wife has a Serotta though.

btw Matt, I dare you to post "I heard Hasselhoff is a musician. So what hollywood types beside Hasselhoff and John Tesh are musicians" at musicforums.net

That would be killer, but I'm not that brave. I would catch hell unless the forum had a large German community. :)

Serpico 05-23-05 02:27 AM

here's seinfeld telling leno he's a cyclist. --- do a search for "cyclist" on this page

here's a website that says Jerry doesn't ride. --- Kramer's mountain bikes

USA today article about Serotta bikes, mentions Seinfeld's wife and Ellen Barkin. --- USA Today

Bikeforums.net thread about celebrity cyclists from last year

What do you guys consider a "Rodie" ? A person that has a road bike and do a organized ride here and there. Or a person who race or train on the road only. You say Seinfeld, Williams, I have never seen any of them on any of the serious local club rides around here. Just because they have an expensive skinny tire bike and they ride on the road, that doesn't make them a rodie.

You don't have to do organized rides to be a roadie. JUst becasue you are in a special "club" doesn't mean you are any more dedicated a cyclist or legitimate, just means you are in a club.

I have a fairly broad definition of a roadie. Basically, I consider anyone who regularly rides their bike on the road to be a roadie. I use the term as a shorthand for "road cyclist" as opposed to "offroad cyclist". The guy riding his 8" travel DH bike with 3" knobbies on the road to me is still a road cyclist.

No, no club. I certainly don't belong to any anymore. The local guys who just get together to ride and train. These local rides are famous around here that go back 20-30 years. In 1984, the Olympic came to LA, there were a bunch of olympic riders from S America came out to our ride to hammer us. It was great.

There was always a bike hanging from a hook in the show - first it was a Klein then a Cannondale

I believe the green Klein MTB with the backwards fork was a contribution from Michael Richards. I don't know about the Cannondale though.

I've heard that Christian Slater is turing into a hardcore bike commuter as he Flys Over the Cuckoo's Nest on the London stage.

Will Ferrell? He doesn't look to be in very good shape judging from a trailer I saw last week for his new movie. Begs the next question - who is a roadie?

Anyway there are a bunch of motorcycle racers that are real roadies. Eric Bostrom has actually entered some bike races and I have a Cannondale Bostrom jersey. Then among others Ricky Carmichael - who just won the Supercross series and who is probably the best 'cross rider ever. Kind of ironic that he is a roadie but it obviously works for those guys.

I have a buddy who does not look the part as well, and he can hammer along pretty good. I do not think you can judge the person by the body.

jsharr 05-23-05 08:55 AM

This just further proves Norm McDonald's theory that Germans love David Hasselhoff.

Regarding Will Ferrell and fitness: I've also read he did a lot of long distance running and was either in training for or had run a marathon.

Will Ferrell has run 2 marathons in under 4 hrs very recently. You don't have to "look like your in shape" to actually be in shape.

I am not in a club, I don't do club rides. I have however put 1000+ miles on my "Road" bike this year. At least I think it's a road bike. Is a Giant OCR2, that's a road bike still, isn't it? Can I still call myself a roadie? If I can't I think I will just give it up all together. Please!
