Thanks for the summary posts, very helpful. I could use some windproof tights without insulation for 45-55 rides, I'll have to check arc'teryx.

It's always fun to buy gear for a specific purpose, but I have to agree that a simple sheet of newspaper or a piece of Tyvek is just about ideal for an actual cycling windblock. Too much arm coverage can quickly become uncomfortably warm. As the day warms up, it's easy to snatch out the newspaper and stick it in your jersey pocket, don't even have to stop riding.

The plastic bag at the vegetable section of your supermarket may also work like the newspaper. Not a throw away, and easily goes into pockets.

This is $13.98 at Sam's Club. Merino/synthetic blend. At that price you should get one just to see if it works for you. I use them for cycling, running, etc. Good product. The best part is the rain resistance. If it is drizzling, no need to put on a rain shell. Sam's sells their socks as well.

OMNIWOOL Multi-Sport Hiking

Sam's sells this as well. That would be good under the helmet. For the price, I might have to get some and try it out.

Ideally it should have wind block all the way down the front of the arms as well as the front of the torso.

I have two jerseys like that.

I kind of regret getting them.

They're NOT good if it is even remotely warm outside, like say, 15C.
They're NOT good if you over-layer on a cooler day.
They're NOT good if there's going to be any climbing in the ride.

About they only time I'm relatively comfortable in them is on a short, flat evening ride when the temp is below 15C.

Well then, you definitely do not want jerseys with wind block on the chest and arms. The best word I can use, from experience, to describe my jerseys is ... clammy. They even feel clammy on the ideal days.
