Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Expensive ones are worth it, except they are sensitive to rough pavement. Hat a sidewall cut on a Conti Four Seasons when almost brand new. So if you ride on good pavement, I'd say Conti GP 4000 S are a good bang for the buck - good grip, light, sensibly long lasting, comfortable.

However, if riding on rough pavement and looking for money vs lifetime: Kenda Kwest. Small tread pattern, but roll OK. Great grip in both dry and wet. Heavier, and less comfortable, but durable. And cost around 5 euros where I live. One tenth of a GP 4000 price here.

So, if you're looking to spend money on tires that go bang, the prior poster thinks the 4 Seasons might fit the bill.

For quieter tires, Michelin Pro4 ENDURANCE V2 Black 28c + FREE Tube | Chain Reaction Cycles

Bang for the buck? I have been loving my Conti Ultra Sport II's in 25mm; so I ordered some in 28mm w/ folding bead for $17 shipped off amazon.

"Bang for the buck" . . .? for performance . . . durability . . . comfort . . .? What's most important to you? The answer to your question depends on how you prioritize features.

I have tried the expensive tires and not had any better flat / blow out protection as the cheap ones.

That goes without saying. The most expensive road bike tires are built for speed and handling, not for flat protection.

Best combination of price/performance/durability tires would be Michelin Pro4 Endurance. The 25mm width tire on a 17mm inner width hoop is actually 28mm wide.

Reasonably durable, nice ride, and cheap.

Yeah they are.. Is this model discontinued or not though? They seem to keep getting restocked at the usual culprits, when I thought these were on their way out, being replaced by the "Power" series. As it is, Michelin seems to have just cut the price in half and kept them in their lineup.

It has been discontinued, but still easily accessible. The Power Endurance tire is great as well, but not quite as cheap(yet).

The Power Endurance is a great tire, but most retailers are still pricing them a little too high(considering that Pro4 Endurance are still available for less).
