I use a basic Nashbar Fluid Trainer and a TV which provides me with shows that have commercials.
Then I do commercial intervals.
Ride easy during the show ... ride as hard as I can for the duration of the commercial break.
My trainer bicycle is a Giant OCR3 acquired in 2002.

Why spend the money for the Kickr. Save yourself 600 and get the Kickr Snap. Zwift is a must! Superb cycling app.

Perhaps accuracy of power readings, no wear on rear wheel and tire, never worry about tire pressure for contact and not having to do a calibration spindown before EVERY ride. If you are doing power interval training, consistency of readings is important.

Thought I would post my pics. First pic is where I got to in January. Still required the front wheel:
Then I crafted an upgrade out of 4x4s and a axel mount, so that I can go wheel-less, and get closer to the keyboard etc. Bit of a hack / bodge, but it works great!
All of this is 3 feet from where I work when I work from home. So I can go from conference call to bike race in a couple minutes (shoes, shorts, water, etc).
I should mention that there is a power-strip on that desk (within easy reach on bike) that turns on/off the 2 fans, trainer, monitor and PC.
