My first and accidental century
So last week my son and his fiance were coming for Thanksgiving, but not until Friday. Thursday morning I got up and did my group's Turkey Day ride which was a well paced 58 miler at 20MPH avg. I came back from it, made a protein smoothie and kicked back before my shower. As I was drinking my smoothie I was feeling great, still had the legs, the energy and more importantly the desire to go ride. So I figured what the heck, it's only 42 miles I need, so I put on a fresh kit and hit the road. Maintained a 17.8 mph avg in the winds, had a great time, the legs felt great, I felt great and I DID IT in under 5:30 total for the 2 rides. Only thing is my Garmin doesn't show my longest ride at 100 miles but I know the truth. Looking forward to my next "official" century, now maybe I will tackle the pan Florida ride (173 miles) in April with the club. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Congrats.
I did something similar on Thanksgiving. Nothing else to do, so I wanted to do at least 65 miles to complete the Strava Gran Fondo for November. Mapped out a hilly 75 mile ride. Once I got down to Malibu, I was having such a good time, that I decided to do a slow ride all the way down to Venice (flat, and I normally do not do flats). Once I got there I was already at 70 miles, nowhere close to home. Got closer to home at 88 miles (all on LA streets now, not the secluded hills), why not do a century? Did the additional 12 miles climbing Griffith Park. Total 100.3 miles. Thankfully I did a longer ride, because bad weather (or the threat of) ruined the rest of the weekend.

Dang I wish I could say that, that's all I get without a 4+ hour road trip, but hey I get perfect weather all winter.
Congrats to you as well, sounds like a great ride. I miss Cali, I spent 7 years in San Jose stationed at Moffett Field

First one is always a good feeling...hell all of them feel good. Congrats and go for the longer ride. I remember back in the day going direct from doing centuries to 160 mile rides and not really noticing a difference. When you have the stamina for 5-6 hours of riding you can pretty much ride as long as you want. Just comes down to food at that point.

Yeah, the best centuries are when around the 60 mile mark you start feeling like a god in the saddle. The power really comes in. You hammer all the way past a 100 and only stop because you want to leave something for the wife in the evening.

Sorry no.. if you do a clothing change, the ride is done; anything after is completely separate.
