I am going to wait until more people vote so I can choose the most popular answer.

4. I too know quite a few strong riders in their 60s. Very few in their late 60s, even fewer in 70s. It seems most riders start going downhill some point in their 60s. I can see riders in their 60s smoke much younger riders in longer rides/longer climbs. With similar fitness/built, it's a lot more difficult for riders in their 60s to keep up with riders half their age in "shorter intense (<45 min) rides".
It's an odd occurance, because 2 years ago, I would have said, "wow, if I could just keep up with __________, I'd be really fast!". ....and yet, near the end of last season, As I was making big gains, and he was feeling age, I passed him up in cycling ability.
A friend of mine once said: "As you get older, If you are lucky, and nothing horrible happens to you...something horrible will happen to you." :-)

The younger kids are probably all out riding their bikes
Note, it is weighted so that 50-60 is about the same as other age groups.

Just a bunch of baby boomers. This too shall pass.
Wait till the Millennials get to be around the 50-60 age. They'll probably be controlling their self-pedaling bikes with telekinesis, knocking out 35mph averages over an 8 hour duration, while sleeping.

Yep, I have a friend in his 60s who, last season was riding in the "A" group, but this year isn't...he just said it felt like too much body strain to keep up. He rides more leisurely now.
It's an odd occurance, because 2 years ago, I would have said, "wow, if I could just keep up with __________, I'd be really fast!". ....and yet, near the end of last season, As I was making big gains, and he was feeling age, I passed him up in cycling ability.

I have similar experience, except I'm the older person

Starting early 2016 the younger guy became more serious and started riding a bit more (but still not nearly as much as I do). Now I couldn't keep up with him in the first 50 miles, unless it's a very steep 10-15% climb, or a very long >5 mile ~5-7% climb (I still have a slight weight advantage).

Could we ask the BF Central Scrutinizer (kudos to anyone who can pin down that allusion) to censor both words?
