Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone use Velocity Rims?

Looking at getting a wheelset built with Velocity Razor rims, and probably Centaur hubs for my rain bike... Any opinions?

I've just heard good things about the aeroheads... never heard much of anything about the razors, though. Centaur hubs don't sound like a bad idea, though.

I have mtb deep v rims as well. I suspect they may survive a nuclear strike; very tough, nice finish, made in Australia! My SS mtb build will have velocity and any new road bike wheels may have velocity in the future.

If a 450lb man can take curbs and roughed up roads on them they're stout

You want the eyelets?

There is a lot of controversy about eyelets. Some say they actually decrease the strength the rim.

If you were not set on eyelets I'd get the aeroheads with the OC rear.

I dunno... the guy who is building them.... (who builds damn fine wheels) seems to like them.

I have a wheelset comprising velocity Aerohead rims laced to Hope Technology road hubs with stainless double butted spokes. They have been very reliable and required minimal adjustment, even during the "settling in period". I would not hesitate to recommend.

Cheers,

Ed

I have Velocity Deep V's, and they are really stiff (and I'm 6'4", 230 lbs), and I mean really stiff, which is why I bought them. Not the most comfortable wheel, but I love them.

I have the Spartacus on what is now my backup bike. I put 3,200 flawless miles on them last season.

Two thumbs up here.

I have two sets....I have Velocity Deep V's on my tandem....originally they were my road wheels when I was 300 pounds.....never had any problems with them and I think they had to be trued up maybe once in about 4000 miles. I also have a set of Aeroheads on my cyclocross bike....they hold up just as well and come in cool colors too.

On another note, a guy in our local bike club broke two or three spokes on his Velocity Wheel in about a month's time.....one call and the wheel was replaced in one day with no hassles......Velocity is a good company making a good product.

Just got my wheels rebuilt with the Aerohead/Aerohead OC combo laced up to my Campy hubs and they're treating me very well through one crit and a 60 mile foray into the hills here, plus a couple of other rides. Haven't had them long, but so far so good.

Jakey,

If you haven't seen this thread check it out. Pay no attention to the OP. Later in the thread the US rep for Velocity checks in with some comments.

I just got a set of Deep V's laced to Chorus hubs. I only have 200 miles on them, but I like them a lot so far.

I've built quite a few wheelsets with Velocity rims. I've never had a problem with them. They are pretty nice. They are not quite the same quality as a Mavic or DT Swiss rim, but they are up there and the price is right. If you are looking for a middle of the road wheel build, the Razor will do it for you.

DT is coming out with a 30mm V rim which should be nice. I think the RR1.1 are great rims with the brake wear indicators, etc, but I'm just not a fan of low profile stuff.

Incidently, they will also be offering front hubs with low hole counts as well.

That would be nice to have a low spoke count (w/ DT aerolites) 30mm aero wheel with brake sidewall wear indicators.
