Different bike, thinking of switching. Advice please!
First off I am still new to cycling
I have a 2004 (I Believe) Felt F45 that I put about 300 miles on last year previous to that I had an older Cannondale that I road lightly, maybe 300 miles over 2 years.
I am looking to set it up some this year.
My F45 has 27 speeds (3x9) Shimano 105 Groupset, not sure of the age as I don't think this is original to the bike.
I really don't like have that many speeds, mainly I don't like having 3 on the front Crank
I have come across a 2013 Fuji Fuji Roubaix 3.0 that I believe is a good price
it is a 18 speed (2x9) with Shimano Sora components
I am thinking of going to take a look
I think I could sell my F45 for the price of the Fuji, makeing this an even trade
Could someone offer an opinion??
Thanks!

If it were me, I'd just swap out that triple chainring and move to a compact for like what $40 installed? Problem solved.

Stick with the bike you have until you really start to put some miles on it. Then maybe you will have an idea about what you like and don't like in a bike and can look to upgrade. Seems pointless to me to change bikes just to remove one gear on the crankset.
Edit: What motosonic said, just swap out the crank.

Likely you could simply unbolt the inner ring and lock out the derailleur with the limiting screw and have a 2x9 105-equipped Felt.

Get rid of the triple as soon as possible.

Thanks for the advice
I will stick with my F45 until I am ready to upgrade, not to swap for something else
I may try to swap out the front crank as well

I do not understand why you do not want so many gears, unless you live in Flatlandia and never use the lower ring ... in which case you could likely remove it, or simply swap it for very little money.
105 should work better for longer. Sora is a fine group, but in terms of lasting longer, working more smoothly, and needing less adjustment, 105 is yards ahead.

Just out of curiosity.
The price for the 2013 Fuji Roubaix 3.0 is $225, is that a decent deal?
According to bicyclebluebook.com vaule is around $325 but not sure if bicyclebluebook is accurate or not
Assuming its in good condition
May pass this off to a friend

I don't see why the third ring is a problem. If you don't need it just don't use it. It won't hurt anything by being there. You might even be glad it's there if you end up doing a long ride with some climbing, once you get some miles in your legs.
One of my bikes has a triple and sometimes we go on hard climbs, like up to South Lake outside of Bishop, and it comes in handy for that.
Of course, you can get a very low gear with a compact double, as well.
