Going to order one once my paycheck goes through...once again SCORE!!!!!
turns out they had one in `04, and just never updated their page.
Looks like my move into "bike bling" will be a slightly more blingity bling bling bling one.
....oh and for disclaimer:

$98 for the '05 Record Carbon in 28.6. How much did you find it for?

99.
I was through this in another post....Campy claims that the 05 record carbon doesn't exist, despite their webpage saying otherwise....it's frustrating to say the least.
Bonus is when I've been drinking, I seem to suddenly become a google jedi master. I wasn't even paying attention just humming the star wars theme when I found that.
Either way I'm very stoked, since I wanted carbon deraileurs. I figured that is the one thing I can truely go weight weenie on with as small a negative effect as possible, but I refuse to pay the obscenely high prices that Tiso costs.

I just built a bike with chorus, and they definitely don't make a chorus FD in 28.6. Oh, well, had to go record...bling. And btw, you're going weight weenie, but isn't 28.6 only in steel?

Actually from what I can tell, there is no 28.6 carbon COMPACT front derailleur. There's a standard double front derailleur in 28.6 though.

Try and actually order one.
I have and I've failed at 4 different internet dealers. The story is - there ain't no more.

Lickton's claims they have them. They may not have updated their site, though. Personally I'd just get the braze on and an adapter. Problem solved!

That is actually the solution. I ended up using a 31.8 with a rubber spacer on one bike and a 2003 on another. Many dealers still list them, but when you push the button it's "out of stock."
Branford, whom I consider to be about the most knowledgeable Campy dealer in the country, doesn't even list them.

He may be, but he knows his stuff. I've only had outrageously excellent service from Tim. Mostly on oddball Campy parts, can't speak to your wheel experience.

I wouldn't buy Campy off him again if he gave me a whole new Record group for a buck.

This is actually one of the coolest things about the net and bikeforums. In the olden days, we had to suffer in silence when we got screwed. Now, at least we have a bit of a voice. Also highlights the mixed nature of how these guys behave - screw one, treat another well. I had an epic problem with one of the better known online builders - poor workmanship, stupid answers, no help - while others would rave on and on about how great he was.
Technology has certainly made this a small world.

cbike.com seems to have a pretty current inventory of campy parts and THEY don't even list said derailleur. Lickton's lists it on their site but that doesn't mean they actually have it in stock.

Trogon -
Right. It's good for the consumer because info is much more readily available on various shops and dealers, bike & parts companies, etc. The good thing is, it's not just a local thing anymore, because if a dealer has complaints against him it can be known all over the world in an instant.

Tim Branford doesn't amount to a pimple on Bob Lickton's ass, IMO.

Most people seem to have kind words for Lickton's. I was going to order some stuff from them but they quoted me a package price that was $100 more than I could have gotten it elsewhere AND they wouldn't budge on the price or pricematch any other sites (though their website says they will). So I just ordered from where I found stuff cheaper.

Yeah... I don't think any less of him for it. He still has margins and profits he has to turn. I can't expect him to lose the shirt off his back just to make one person happy. They do tend to stock a really good selection of parts, that's for sure. I ended up ordering a good bit of stuff from universalcycles.com and had an overall good experience with them (minus the shipping mishap that was atoned for).

Basically they do exist, they are just hard as hell to find since they discontinued them in 04.
BTW it's the record Carbon (non compact).
The bike is a 2001 motobecane vent noir. The bike definately fits the bill of "darth vader bike"
Here's a picture of a stock one, I have all black 105 brifters/brakes, better wheels/saddle, and an ultegra cassette. https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...ntnoir_big.jpg Once I get a camera, the before pics will be taken before I do the upgrades.
I'm about to do a campy conversion on it. So far I have chorus BB, chorus carbon RD, chorus ergolevers, american classic conversion casette (10-sp), wippermann SS chain, centaur 172.5 cranks. Sure you can talk about how bad motobecane has become, but this frame feels about perfect to me, and looks really good to boot. The wheels are custom laced 105 hubs to MA-3 rims, 14ga straight spokes and plated brass nipples. They aren't light, but they are as close to bombproof as I've ever seen.
Now all I ahve to do is hunt down some nice aluminum bars with a profile with nice flat portions up to the hoods, kinda like the weyless one9one that supergo sells....just aluminum (and hopefully black)...I'll go weight weenie on non-load bearing parts, but not on anything else yet.
